Water Journeys

After 4 collaborative meetings for the GLC Journey Project, people are on the move. See our UPDATES page to see how you can still join and support these 8 (and counting) paths. So far we have already:
  • walked 15 km (9 miles) to raise our voices against the commodification of water near Guelph Ontario
  • biked Manitoulin Island to feel the heart of the Great Lakes
  • walked for 3 days around Hamilton Harbour to protect water as life through ceremony
  • performed 3 shows of The Wastelands Opera in Buffalo and now preparing for Cleveland
  • run one third of the distance of Lake Superior collecting freshwater stories
From July 8-10 we will be co-presenting at the CommonBound conference in Buffalo. Here's part of the invite and see/share the full event information here.

Learning the language of commoning and decolonization is a radical act.

The words themselves change how we think as they highlight many of our culture's fundamental misconceptions. Our four facilitators are offering this workshop as medicine for some of the things that are ailing us at a deep level. As we build a new economy together, let's move forward in a way that unites us at the core with other beings, the natural world, and ourselves.
Every Good Journey Needs A Guide

The Commons Journey project was inspired by the motion of water and so we found projects that were in motion (walkers, cyclists, paddlers, runners, swimmers).  The list of Journey partnerships is being updated every month and we are now happy to share our Journey Guide to the wider GLC community. Attend one of our events to get your own paper copy or download it from us.

Looking For New Blog Writers

If you have a story to tell about how a Great Lakes Commons is rising in your homewaters, get in touch and we will post it on our site. For example, look what Ben Weaver wrote:

Raising the Water Bar: transcending boundaries through art

Yes, we have been slowly making more graphics to share with everyone. This one is great for your water bottle. If you have ideas for new stickers, please get in touch.

In May we hosted a workshop for Grade 8 students in southern Ontario. Since the Water Cycle is part of their studies, we prototyped a 'compass of care' activity requiring the 40 students to think about another cycle: the reciprocal relationship between how water cares for us and how we care for water. Watch our Bundles for Action page for resources on how to share the water-commoning work. Each of these 4 elements can help us understand and practice this care.
