SABOR: Latin Dance Party with DJ Jose Ruiz!
Join DJ Jose Ruiz in La Peña’s Lounge for a night of Salsa, Cumbia, Cha Cha Cha. DJ José Ruíz aka MundoMuzik, is a DJ, radio host, promoter, and collector of world music, vinyl, art and all cultural and music ephemera. Jose’s taste in music is very eclectic, unafraid to mix traditional, experimental or folkloric elements in his sets.

Gail Dobson Trio, plus Vocals for Kids Performance

Join Gail Dobson, vocals/percussion, and Luke Westbrook, guitar, plus special guest artists in La Peña’s lounge at 4:30pm. At 5: 30pm La Peña’s Vocals for Kids will debut the songs they have been practicing. 
This event will be a great time, with food, laughter, and music!  Bring the Kids!

Cuban Rumba Jam

Come enjoy the Afro-Cuban folkloric drums, dances, and songs of rumba. Rumba is the word used for a group of related, community-oriented, music and dance styles in Cuba. Rumba developed in rural Cuba, with strong influences from African drumming, Spanish poetry and singing.

Chilean Ex-soldier Found Liable for 1973 Death of Singer Victor Jara

Nearly 43 years after the assassination of a famed Chilean folksinger, a Florida jury has found a former Chilean lieutenant liable for his grisly murder in the days after a U.S.-backed coup brought dictator Augusto Pinochet to power.
A six-member Orlando jury found Pedro Pablo Barrientos Nuñez liable Monday (June 27) for the torture and murder of Victor Jara, rejecting the main defense argument that Barrientos never stepped foot in Chile Stadium where the folksinger was held with 5,000 others immediately after the coup.

Former Chilean soldiers under his command testified during the trial that Barrientos was stationed at the stadium, and one said that Barrientos repeatedly bragged that he had fired the two fatal gunshots into the songwriter’s head.  CONTINUE READING HERE.
