Burleigh BBQ Championships
30 & 31 July

Watch some of Australia’s best BBQ teams battle it out overnight. 20 hours to cook, 5 meat categories to be handed in at different times Sunday morning. Judges experienced and locals to be newly trained Sunday morning will do the scoring.

Bring your picnic blanket and kick back to the live tunes in the park throughout. Authentic low and slow BBQ will be available from select teams in a new designated area. Street food vans also in attendance.

It was great to get down to the Pirates Gala Day last weekend and to the Burleigh Bears Juniors and watch some of our young local future sports stars in action.

I loaned eight pop up marquees to the Pirates for their big event and wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone, I have pop up marquees available for loan to all local sports and community groups - for free!

Have you heard of BeachCare?
BeachCare is a coastal community engagement initiative facilitated by the Griffith Centre for Coastal Management in partnership with the City of Gold Coast. The program aims to provide an opportunity for community members to participate in caring for their local coastal environments through the planting of native dune species, weed removal and litter collection and auditing.
I have volunteered with them a few times including recently at North Burleigh and will continue to do so.
I encourage everyone to get along and volunteer a few hours to help keep our beaches healthy.

Hart Ready to Fight Labor’s Spiralling Cost of Living

Member for Burleigh, Michael Hart MP, was named the Shadow Minister for Energy, Biofuels and Water Supply in Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls, fresh-faced team.
“I’m looking forward to taking the fight to this frozen at the wheel Palaszczuk Government over the spiralling cost of living and the pressure it’s putting on Queenslanders,” said Mr Hart.
“We have people across the whole State doing it tough and the Government needs to be offering value for money in the services it is providing, not pushing up costs to balance their budget.”
Prior to his election as the State Member of Burleigh in 2012, Michael worked in a number of industries including aviation, manufacturing and as a successful small business owner.

He was appointed to the State Infrastructure Planning and Natural Resources Parliamentary Committee under an LNP Government and has remained on the Committee elevated to Deputy Chair in 2015.
Overseeing the scrutiny of major legislation like the FIFO Inquiry, Transport Legislation (Taxi Services) Amendment Bill 2015 and the Water Legislation Amendment Bill 2015 amongst others holds Michael in good stead for the challenge ahead.
“I’ve worked with Tim since joining the LNP team in 2012 and I know he and Deb (Frecklington) will deliver real outcomes innovatively and consultatively rather than putting union mates ahead of hardworking everyday Queenslanders,” he said.

“I have full confidence we are moving forward with an experienced team who will hold Labor to account and produce policies that advance the interests of all Queenslanders.”

I can't resist sharing this photo of my newest family member, a granddaughter.
She joins my grandson in our growing family and I am a very proud poppy.

Don't forget I have an information booth on the second Saturday of every month (following the Federal election on July 2) at the Burleigh Farmers Markets held at Burleigh State School.
