MTCC Board Member Summer Update: June 11th, 1:30 PM.

The MTCC Board of Directors Summer Update Conference Call will occur on Monday, July 11 at 1:30 PM. The call will include several important updates about Campus Compact initiatives at the state and national levels, including the launch of Civic Action Planning. Board members and assistants should RSVP to Andrea Vernon to to receive call information.

MTCC Hosts First All-Network Conference!

Earlier this month at the beautiful Donaldson campus of Helena College, MTCC convened it's first in-person Network Meeting with participants from 11 MTCC institutions and the network office. The two-day event featured an MTCC board member panel, dialog about the next year of the Compact's work, and opportunities for colleagues to share best practices. The Advisory Committee honored the service of its outgoing chair, Wendy Jeschke of Flathead Valley Community College and elected a new Chair and Vice Chair, Jill Washburn from Rocky Mountain College and Colleen Kane from the University of Montana.

Flathead Valley Community College Student Jade Williamson recently attended College Debate 2016 at Dominican University in California. The event convened student leaders from across the country, and focused on leveraging technology to engage college students in the upcoming election season. Here's Jade's report!
 
 

MTCC Campuses and Partners Recruiting VISTAs

Many of MTCC's July 2016-2017 full time VISTA host sites are still accepting VISTA applications! Full-time VISTA's serve for a year in communities around Montana to build sustainable infrastructure to alleviate poverty.  VISTA's receive a relocation allowance if traveling greater than 50 miles to serve, earn a small living stipend, health care and optional child care, and receive a $5,731 Educational Award after the completion of their service to use towards loans and/or future education.  Check out our website for site-specific info and to apply.

MTCC Awarded MT Commission on Community Service Funding

At the June meeting of the Montana Commission on Community Service, the Montana Campus Compact was one of three organizations selected for an AmeriCorps operational grant from the Commission's funding, and is the only education-focused partner. AmeriCorps is a national service program which places its members -Montana College students in our case- with schools and nonprofits,addressing community needs like high school completion and post-secondary access. MTCC was awarded $250,000 which will primarily fund full-time leader and student positions at campuses across the state and Education Awards. 100 Youth Serve Montana Scholarship Awarded to Incoming Freshmen

Working with partners in the Student Assistance Foundation and the Governor's Office of Community Service, 100 incoming college freshmen will receive the prestigious Youth Serve Montana Scholarship. These exemplary Montanans have completed a minimum of 100 hours of community service over the past year, and will attend: Montana Western, Carroll College, Montana Tech, Montana State University, Blackfeet Community College, Miles Community College, Montana State University Northern, Rocky Mountain College, The University of Montana, Great Falls College and City College. Campus Compact VISTAs and AmeriCorps members, Network Office Staff and Volunteers Raise Funds for College Scholarships

MTCC and Team Stamped hosted the Garden City Triathlon, the proceeds from the event go to sponsor MTCC's Civic Engagement Scholarship. Over 150 racers, volunteers and spectators gathered at Frenchtown Pond State Park on Saturday, June 4th. Big thanks to all who raced, volunteered, donated or otherwise supported MTCC!
