OVER 15 YEARS OF EXPATS HELPING EXPATS

THIS SUNDAY'S PROGRAM

Java --  land of natural beauty, rich cultural experiences, and  erotic ancient mysteries.

This Sunday, we will have a presentation featuring this intriguing Indonesian island.   PCEC member Pat Koester and several other members of the group that recently enjoyed a five-day "Songkran getaway" trip to Java will share their experiences and highlights of the trip.

The wide variety of highlights includes two little-known ancient Hindu temples, the mysterious and erotic Candi Sukuh and Candi Ceto;  Borobudur, comparable to Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Bagn in Myanmar;   the huge palace compound of the sultans of Yogyakarta; the elegant royal palace in Solo; and Taman Sari, a complex which once served as a splendid pleasure park of palaces, pools and waterways for the sultan and his entourage.   They also visited a place where "the most expensive coffee in the world," as featured in the movie, "The Bucket List," is produced.

PCEC member Brian Songhurst has put together a terrific slide show to go along with the presentation.

After the presentation, we will have the usual announcements of upcoming events, updates on club activities, and last, but not the least, there will be an Open Forum, which is the time for you to ask questions about living in Thailand, or Pattaya.

BREAKFAST BUFFET AVAILABLE
A buffet breakfast is available from 9:00 am to 11:00am. The program begins at 10:30 am and concludes around noon. Remember to obtain your coffee or tea refills before the pots are removed at 11:00 am.  The Club has met at this location for several years now with its pleasant laid back and informal atmosphere - which the Amari Hotel allows us to use without charge. Please support our continued use of these facilities by purchasing the full buffet or, if you do not want a full breakfast, at least the toast and coffee/ tea option or the fruit and juice option.

THE GOVERNING BOARD MEETING ON SUNDAY, JUNE 19

The Pattaya City Expats Club Bylaws stipulate a Governing Board of at least seven and not more than 11 members. Currently there are 11 members on the Board. The terms of four of the 11 members expire on the day of the 2016 AGM.

There were 4 nominations submitted by the deadline – all 4 were for incumbent members of the Board: Judith Edmonds, Jerry Dean, Roy Albiston, and Lawrie Mcloughlin. The Board approved the nominations. The By-Laws provide that if the number of approved nominations are equal to or less than the number of vacancies, there is no need for an election at the July 3 AGM. Therefore, the four nominated individuals will continue on the Governing Board for another two-year term.

The Board also finalized plans for the AGM on July 3. In addition to the usual Chairman’s and Treasurer’s reports, the Club will also be celebrating 15 years of continuous service to Expats in Pattaya – there will be a speaker, gifts, and a cake for all to enjoy.

SUMMARY  OF LAST WEEK'S MEETING

Dr. Hataichanok Ngamkasem, Cardiologist, from Phyathai Hospital Sriracha was the guest speaker at the June 19 meeting of the Pattaya City Expats Club.

She talked about the differences among non-invasive cardiac imaging techniques, such as electrocardiogram(EKG), Echocardiogram, nuclear camera images, Cardiac CT scan and Cardiac MRI.

Dr. Hataichanok said cardiac imaging techniques are safe and easy to perform. When a patient presents symptom, cardiac imaging can take a picture of your heart to confirm the doctor's diagnosis.

She described common symptoms that may require testing include chest discomfort, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, dizziness and fatigue.  In some cases, symptoms might include pain in the jaw, left shoulder or left arm.  She said she has seen cases in which a person goes to the dentist with jaw pain, but dies because they were actually having a heart attack.
