Pillar powers a pair

 Games played June 15-16, 2016

June 16

Toronto CF Kevin Pillar had two home runs, a single, and three RBIs in a 13-2 crushing of Philadelphia. It was the second career multi-homer game for Pillar, who has three home runs in his last three games. But it was a 1st-inning foul ball that got more hits on social media Thursday. A fan with a child in his lap and a meal in his left hand calmly caught Pillar's fly ball with his right.

Incredibly, Pillar is the fourth Jewish player with a two-homer game this season. Ryan BraunJoc Pederson, and Danny Valencia each have accomplished the feat twice in 2016.

Speaking of Pederson, the Dodgers' CF hit an RBI single in Thursday's 8-6 loss to Milwaukee. On the other side of the diamond, Brewers LF Ryan Braun singled and walked. In the 6th inning, the two players got caught up in a bizarre Jew vs. Jew moment (see video). With one out and Milwaukee up 6-5, Dodgers PH Justin Turner flied out to Braun, whose throw to second base caught Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal trying to tag up. But at almost the exact moment Grandal was being tagged for the third out of the inning, Pederson -- who had hit an RBI single a play earlier and advanced to second base on an error -- crossed home plate for the tying run. Umpires upheld the challenge, so Pederson's run counted, and Braun was credited with his seventh assist, tied for second-most among N.L. left fielders.

Batting ninth for the Yankees, 1B Ike Davis went 0-for-2 with a walk in a 4-1 win over Minnesota. Davis got teammate CC Sabathia out of a bases-loaded jam in the 2nd inning when he snagged a hard-hit liner off the bat of Robbie Grossman to end the inning.

Detroit 2B Ian Kinsler hit an RBI single in a 10-4 win over Kansas City. He leads all MLB Jews with 14 HRs and 45 RBIs, and his 45 RBIs are tied for 7th in the American League.

Oakland 3B Danny Valencia went hitless in a 5-1 loss to Texas. He wasn't alone. Rangers P Colby Lewis had a no-hitter going into the 9th inning and a perfect game going into the 8th. Interestingly, Lewis had a perfect game going against the A's on September 11, 2015, when Valencia spoiled it with an 8th-inning double.

Reliever Richard Bleier did not play in the Yankees' 4-1 win over Minnesota.

Reliever Scott Feldman's Astros were idle.

June 15

Toronto CF Kevin Pillar was hitless in a 7-2 win over Philadelphia.

Pinch-hitting in the 7th inning of Wednesday's 3-2 win over Arizona, Dodgers CF Joc Pederson struck out.

1B Ike Davis went hitless in his second game with the Yankees, a 6-3 loss to Colorado.

Detroit 2B Ian Kinsler doubled and was hit by a pitch in a 5-3 loss to the White Sox. He and Kevin Pillar each have been hit five times this year, tying them for 7th place in the American League. Kinsler's lightning-fast reflexes also saved a run with this 8th-inning catch.

Oakland 3B Danny Valencia had an RBI single in a 7-5 loss to Texas.

Yankees reliever Richard Bleier did not play in a 6-3 loss to Colorado.

Astros reliever Scott Feldman did not play in a 4-1 win over the Cardinals.
