• From the Director •
Dear Groundswell friends, farmers and eaters,

In lieu of a standard “From the Director,” I ask that you hold this space with me as the smallest of efforts to honor all the lives impacted by the brutally tragic attack at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida this week. Forty-nine people were murdered in the targeted shooting, and the majority of these victims were members of the LGBTQ + and Latino communities.

I send my deepest condolences to the families and friends impacted by the attack and I stand in solidarity with you. Even though I am not directly affected by this tragedy because I did not know the victims, the extreme nature of hate crimes and targeted violence against groups of people is deeply painful and intolerable to continue to witness.

Though I feel helpless when political voices verbally retaliate violence with more words of hate and blame, I remain committed to doing the best I know how to in order to contribute to a just, equitable and loving community.
In Peace,

Elizabeth Gabriel, Director

Spring Mixer Wrap-Up
On May 22, we held our annual Spring Mixer and Plant Swap at our office in Ithaca. Many familiar faces and quite a few new friends celebrated spring and shared in some excellent food, drink and music. Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and attended this fun event!

Groundswell Welcomes
 New Program Coordinator
Nicole Scott
We are excited to have Nicole Scott join the Groundswell team. Nicole will be facilitating existing programs and help with developing new ones. She will also be getting her hands-on dirty at the Incubator Farm. Nicole is a recent graduate from Cornell and a former Groundswell board intern.

We have the pleasure to work with Nicole until December, when she departs for a Peace Corp assignment in Zambia. Please contact Nicole at programs@groundswellcenter.org.
Welcome Nicole!

Early Summer @ the Incubator Farm

The season is moving along nicely at The Incubator Farm with two key additions to our infrastructure. Most important is the new walk-in cooler. (photo below)

Thanks to funding provided by the Park Foundation, this new cube of cold will enable Incubator Farmers to keep their produce fresh until it goes to market! We also added a sign to our front gate so visitors can more easily find us!

Stay tuned for more updates as the growing season progresses!
