(St. Paul) - June 19, 2016 - Members of the Minnesota Nurses Association will go on strike at 7 a.m. Sunday, June 19, but they expect to be escorted out of Allina Health hospitals likely between 5 a.m. - 7 a.m. Before they can leave, nurses "give report" or inform the next caregiver what assessments or treatments they've given to their assigned patients. Nurses will give report to their managers about the patients they are currently caring for before they leave. Hospital managers will then give report and assign those patients to replacement nurses.
Nurses will picket in shifts outside Allina hospitals from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. for 7 days. The strike officially ends Sunday, June 26, at 7 a.m. Nurses will report back to work if Allina has called them back to work.
Nurses are engaging in an Unfair Labor Practice Strike that begins at 7 a.m. Sunday, June 19. MNA has filed numerous ULPs against Allina Health in part for failing to provide information nurses need to negotiate and for failing to bargain on non-economic issues in the contract.
Members will be available to talk to reporters. MNA staff will also be there to assist.
