The financial challenges that lie ahead for Auburn Montgomery during its transition to DII as part of the GSC are explored. According to the most-recent data available from the U.S. Department of Education, AUM would rank last in the league in total athletic expenses. AUM had total expenses of just over $3M for the 2014-15 school year, while the GSC's 12 current members averaged more than $6M in expenses. Nonetheless, AUM Chancellor Veres notes that "we know we have some ground to make up" to catch the four league members who don't sponsor FB ($5.2M average), even though AUM owns its own transportation and those schools sponsor an average of 15 sports, while AUM will be at 11 one year from now. - link
While the focus of satellite camps will always be on DI, the impact of any changes to the status quo would be felt at the DII level as well. The NCAA is considering a ban on satellite camps and replacing them with camps it would sponsor with the NFL. If the status quo is maintained, the window for coaches to attend the camps could be cut from 30 days to 10. Among other changes considered at the C-USA (DI) spring meetings include the possibility of penalizing DIs for signing a FB PSA who ultimately doesn't qualify academically, which could cause DIs to be more judicious in their signings and deepen the recruiting pool for DIIs. - link
Molloy announced that field hockey will begin competition this fall as an independent under the direction of now-former Dowling HC Hannigan. AD Cassidy-Lyke: "I am excited that we will be adding field hockey as our 19th sports team. Field Hockey has been part of our planned program expansion for some time and now is an ideal opportunity to move forward. This will increase opportunities for our female population at Molloy. It is a unique circumstance with the availability of seasoned collegiate players as well as an experienced head coach." - link
Valdosta State hired Belmont (DI) AC Kuhns as its new WBB HC. Kuhns starred for the Lady Blazers from 2004-08 and was inducted into the Blazer Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015. AD Reinhard: "It is rewarding when you have the opportunity to bring a Blazer alum back to the university. Carley will be the fourth former VSU student-athlete to return to the university as a head coach, and with John Hansen, Tommy Thomas, and Chris Hatcher being the other three, we have certainly had great success with that formula" - link

Northwest Missouri State will take on Central Missouri at Arrowhead Stadium on October 1. The Bearcats last played at the Kansas City Chiefs' home stadium in 2013 and it will be the 1st appearance for UCM. NMSU HC Dorrel: "So many things go into this process, and the result is an incredible showcase for our fans and supporters in one of the top outdoor football venues in the United States. Kansas City has always been such a great base for our program, and our track record of success and record-setting crowds speak for themselves. It's the area of our largest alumni base and as we saw during last year's national championship game, Bearcat Nation out in full force is an amazing sight." - link

Limited DII mention in this article, but small college administrators talk about adding football as a varsity sport and how it has helped with alumni relations, male enrollment numbers, revenue generation and overall campus morale. George Fox (DIII) AD Taylor on the benefits the school has seen since launching the football program three years ago: "Whether it's enrollment, whether it's gender balance, all those things are being accomplished in ways that are pleasantly surprising to us. The biggest thing for me as an athletic administrator is that what football has brought to our campus as far as energy and culture and excitement in our fall." - link
Illinois Springfield VB will open its 2016 season by hosting a six-team tourney it has dubbed the Capital Classic. HC Salinas sees nothing but upside in hosting the event that will be situated between two metro areas: "This is a tournament I really hope to grow to well over 10 teams. It’s also a tournament I want to host annually.
