Summer 2016 Kent ISD MTSS Update
Kent ISD is committed to providing a continuum of supports for local districts as they implement an integrated academic and behavioral Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS) framework. Our team works to develop local leadership teams who facilitate and support quality systems reviews resulting in sustainable changes that increase achievement for ALL students.
MTSS Impact
  • As a result of Kent ISD's intentional focus on continuous improvement, our capactity to implement MTSS with fidelity increased from 57% in the fall to 85% in the winter on the Regional Capacity Assessment.
  • Our implementation team supported six local districts to increase their MTSS implementation capacity. On average their scores on the District Capacity Assessment increased by over 15 percentage points from fall to winter.
  • This spring we introduced new fidelity measures for both PBIS and School-Wide Reading Systems. Seven of eleven buildings have met the target score for fidelity of PBIS Implementation!
  • In 70% of the buildings implementing a school-wide reading model, over 80% of the students met benchmark on spring DIBELS assessments!
What's Next?
  • This fall Kent ISD's MTSS team will begin a formal partnership with Godwin Heights Public Schools to implement an integrated model of MTSS for behavior and reading! We will focus initially on their middle and high schools.
  • In August, Kent ISD is partnering with MiBLSi to bring in Dr. Kristine Jolivette.  Dr. Jolivette has expertise in implementing PBIS throughout residential and juvenile justice facilities.  She will be working with teams from each campus of Lighthouse Academy!
  • In order to build internal capacity and scale up MTSS support to local districts and charters, in September Kent ISD will host a professional development day for instructional service consultants and directors.
At Caledonia Elementary, the percent of third grade students meeting benchmark improved from 74% in the winter to 87% in the spring. 98% of students meeting benchmark in winter met benchmark in the spring as well!
