13th Grade Blue Devils

The 13th Grade Blue Devils with Brent Taylor (coach).
The Miramar Blue Devils (13th Grade Premier B) have had a slow start to the season in the 13th Grade Premier C Travel League but on Saturday 7th May they proved that they can be a force to be reckoned with!!! Despite being in the lower half of the table they caused a major upset by beating the top side of IBU Sharks 2 - 0.  This was the Sharks first loss of the season and until they played us they had only conceded ONE goal this season! Our entire team combined to play a stunning game of football and the win was well deserved!

Traffic safety around the grounds

Every Saturday football grounds around Wellington swell as youngsters and their families take to the field. There have been a couple of really close calls (at Miramar Park and Wakefield Park) in recent weeks. Please be extra viligent around busy parks and watch out for young children. They are unpredictable and hard to spot and very easily broken.

Use of goals at Miramar Park

Please ensure you look after the goals at Miramar Park. These goals are used by teams training during the week and by the 7th and 8th Grades on Saturday mornings. Make sure you leave them tidy and locked up. If we can't get this right, the goals will only be available for 7th and 8th Grade Saturday football and teams will no longer be able to train with them.

Update from Andy Taylor's Thailand trip

"Thanks again to everyone who donated football boots for me to take to Thailand. It was an incredible experience to play for the New Zealand masters against Thailand, Australia (twice), Scotland and the USA. Thankfully we had a rest day halfway through the tournament week and we spent part of this along with all the other teams in a coaching session for local junior players. Our team worked with a group of about 25 players and did a few technical drills, some possession, small sided games and finished with an all-in game of the boys against us.

All of the teams brought gifts for the boys and our table was loaded with great stuff and included around 40 pairs of boots which had been donated to David Batty and myself. Everyone left the session with a smile on their face and their arms full of gear!"

Wynton Rufer 2016, 9th Grade report

"The sun shone mostly, the wind was light and the ground not boggy... Wynton Rufer had set up for a great day out!

Our A team, the Sharks had a wonderful run through the rounds and the semi-final.  They played the day with only one substitute player and we know a grueling day of six games of football for these guys is a big ask.  They did however have a great day, playing really well and enjoying themselves and their game.

The final was a repeat of last year against Wests and unfortunately this year, it was not our turn, losing 0 - 1.  It's fair to say that the Sharks were pretty down about it, but they dusted themselves off and went home proud after a long exhausting day.

The B team, the Torpedoes, did not have the luck of the draw and were out on their feet by the end of the day.  They played really well through the rounds, losing just once, and ended up 4th equal.  it came down to a one point goal difference on who would progress to the semi-finals and they ended the day, a very well played 5th.

These guys had a big step up in performance from their last year's competition and who knows what might have happened if that goal differential had been different.  Heading home was another tired and happy team.

We'll be back next year, vying for that trophy Wynton Rufer!"
