Hot Competition
Despite the 90+ degrees weather, our scholars had a blast at Field Day at Eckersell Field. Hula hoop and jumprope competitions, (congrats to 2nd grader Tashiya on the school-wide championship!), egg relay races, an obstacle course, wheelbarrow races, and a hot potato dance-off allowed scholars a little fun and friendly competition. A special thank you to the 15 parent volunteers who helped chaperone and run stations.

Moving On Up
We were thrilled to celebrate the incredible progress of our Kindergarten scholars at our Moving Up Ceremony.

We followed the Moving Up Ceremony with the End-Of-Year BBQ for all of our GLA scholars and families. Thank you to everyone who came out for a hot dog and a celebratory summer send-off.

A Helping Hand
A huge thank you to the Deloitte team who spent the day at Great Lakes Academy planting bushes and planters, sorting and organizing our Lending Library, painting the staircases, and so much more. We made huge gains towards getting ready for Day 1 of the 2016-2017 school year!

Have a Seat
Know of a Kindergartner, 2nd or 3rd grader looking for a new school? We still have a limited number of seats available. We are currently running a waitlist in 1st grade. Our doors are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m., so come on by any time to enroll.

Upcoming Events

Parent Orientation
We will have our FINAL Parent Orientation for newly enrolled parents and those who could not attend previous orientations.

Where: Great Lakes Academy, 8401 S. Saginaw Avenue
When: 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27

Attendance is MANDATORY. You must come to our final Parent Orientation if you have not done so already. You will receive information about the school and everything you need to know about the upcoming year. You can also pay outstanding balances and provide any necessary paperwork. We look forward to seeing you there!

Name: TJ (Thomas John) Hanes

Title: Operations Associate

The best part of working at Great Lakes Academy during the summer is... getting to prepare and plan classrooms and materials for the coming year. My days during the school year are very hectic, so I relish the calm and quiet the summer brings as we visualize and plan for a whole new grade!

When I'm not at GLA, I... can be found in Bridgeport, most likely riding bikes, playing soccer, or relaxing outside with friends.
