II. Time to Person Up!

The Summer has traditionally been a slow time for campaigns because nobody’s thinking about elections until October, so things start warming up on Labor Day. Except this year, nobody will let anyone forget that there’s an election coming up where everything’s at stake. So, as exhausting as it might be to think about, please help our candidates at:

A. Voter Registration at the Lebanon County Library

Voter Registration drive, Lebanon County Main Library, Saturday, July 16, 10am-3pm. We will have the Voting machine there and will need volunteers to demonstrate it and help people register. Contact Hazel Diaz to volunteer.

B. The Lebanon County Fair

The Democratic Party will have a booth at this year’s fair from July 23-30 at the Lebanon Expo Center. If you’ve never been, it’s a real treat to see animals, exhibits, rides, entertainers and lots of other things, plus great carnival food and games. We need volunteers to answer questions, register voters, talk up our great candidates and to show that Democrats are friendly neighbors.  We have slots from 2-4 (not Saturday), 4-6:30 and 6:30-8:45 every day of the fair. If you can spare the time to meet new people and help the cause, here are the open slots as of today (7/1):

Sun Jul 24 4-6:30

Mon Jul 25 2-4

Mon Jul 25  6:30-8:45

Wed Jul 27 2-4

Wed Jul 27 6:30- 8:45

Thu Jul 28 6:30-8:45

Fri Jul 29 2-4

If these slots don’t work for you, any time will do, and you can share the booth with other Democrats who’ve already signed up. Sometimes it take 2-3-4 people to handle the crowds, so the more the merrier!

The evening slots are the busiest and the afternoon slots are the lightest. For more info, contact us.

C. Pridefest

This is the first year we’ve participated with a booth at the Central PA Pridefest in Harrisburg on July 30th. We sharing the space with the Dauphin County Democratic Party and it would be great to show our commitment at the event. If you’d like to help, contact Cornell WIlson.

D. Fiesta Latina

Our fifth annual Fiesta Latina will host close to 1000 potential voters at Beautex Park in Lebanon on Saturday, August 27 from 11 AM to 4-ish with free food, door prizes, games, dancing, music, speeches (short), and Lebanon’s first Lebanon Idol contest! Everyone who has volunteered in the past has had a great time and we hope you will join us this year and have a great time, too! We need people to help set up and take down, serve food, help kids with games, register voters, greet our guests and push our candidates. You can do it! And you’ll really feel good afterward. For more info, contact us.

III. Democrats Clean Up!

Cornell WIlson would like to thank all the Democrats that came out to volunteer at the Community Clean-up on June 25th. Also the Democrats who helped clean up Beautex Park on July 18th and those who helped clean up the highway with Bobbie Warshaw and Paul Heise.

IV. Pipeline News

Hello Concerned Citizens of Lebanon County - here are some updates on what's happening with Sunoco's Mariner East Pipeline Project (also called the Pennsylvania Pipeline Project).

1. The first ruling by an appellate court in Pennsylvania involving Sunoco's pipeline project was issued last week in favor of allowing a citizens' suit to proceed challenging Sunoco's claim of eminent domain authority. The PA Commonwealth Court President Judge denied Sunoco's attempt to appeal the dismissal of its preliminary objections to the case against it challenging its right to use eminent domain for the Mariner East Pipeline Project. In February 2016, the Philadelphia County Common Pleas Court had dismissed Sunoco's preliminary objections to the suit filed by the Clean Air Council (CAC) and several landowners. Sunoco appealed that lower court ruling to the Commonwealth Court, but now the CAC's case can proceed in the Philadelphia court.

See the Lebanon Daily News article at this link:

http://www.ldnews.com/story/news/local/2016/06/23/pa-court-rules-against-sunoco-mariner-east-suit/86289976/

2.  PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has accepted for review Sunoco's applications for permits for its 300-mile Mariner East pipeline to cross streams and wetlands across the southern portion of Pennsylvania, from Houston in Washington County to Marcus Hook in Delaware County. DEP issued public notices of the permit applications in the PA Bulletin of June 25, 2016. The DEP announced a 60-day public comment period on the proposed project and will accept written comments until August 24, 2016. In Lebanon County, the project proposes a 20-inch and 16-inch pipeline that would cross Cornwall Borough and the Townships of South Londonderry, South Annville, South Lebanon, West Cornwall and Heidelberg.

For the overall best source of government and media contacts, see this link:

http://www.whatisworking.com/contact-congress-address-phone-twitter-html/

Most representatives do not expect people to be paying attention.  That’s why the more people call and express their opinions, the more likely we will be listened to. Even if you know they will never vote your way on an issue, they do keep records of how many constituents disagree with them and it might help if they hear push back from their colleagues.

i.       Political Statistics of interest

John Harvey has found an interesting website that has all types of statistical and demographic information related to politics. For example, here is a graph comparing the change in family income for each president since Kennedy.

j.       True Blue News

The PA Democratic Committee puts out a regular bulletin with news about Democrats state-wide. There is news about the Governor, legislature, county and general news. Not sure how to subscribe to it, but it looked pretty good. You can try writing to pressoffice@padems.com if you’re interested.

K. Philadelphia Convention

Info on the Convention this summer is available here:  http://www.phldnc.com/help-make-history/

L. Thinking about running for office?

Please get in touch with the Campaign Committee at Campaign@lebanondemocrats.com, text or call 717-873-7680 and we can steer you to the resources you will need.  Also, plan to attend the LCDC Seminars we are scheduling for 2016.

M. Anna Cunha Century Club

We need your support as a donor and member of the Anna Cunha Century Club. Contributions of $50, $75 or $100 or more are welcome to sustain our party in Lebanon County, but a contribution of $100 or more can make a larger impact as we prepare for the 2016 national and state campaigns.

Century Club donations can be made by check or online through Act Blue.  We are only halfway to our budgeted goal and need to pay our bills and prepare for the fall campaign. Dig deep to win in November.
