Serving More in Need by Expanding Boundaries
Thanks to generous support from the community, the Pantry is growing to better serve more families in the Dulles South region. From launching a broader service zone to increasing programs and hours, the Pantry evolves to meet the needs of the Dulles South Community.
Serving a Broader Community - Effective June 1, 2016, the Dulles South Food Pantry has expanded its geographic boundaries to serve families in the Brambleton community, in addition to those who reside in the school attendance zones for the Freedom and John Champe High Schools. Specifically, the Pantry is now offering services to the zones that have been assigned to the new Brambleton Middle School opening in the 2017-2018 school year.
Buffalo Trail Elementary School "Weighs In" on Food Recovery
This past school year, the students and leaders of the Buffalo Trail Elementary School CASA after school program began a lunch time food harvest. Their goal: to recover more pounds in food than the body weight of the all the CASA students combined. This was no small task as the students, led by CASA Supervisor, Susan McClanahan, weighed approximately 3,030 pounds.
Read our latest website blog to see if these students met their goal!
Board Highlights
The Pantry Board is pleased to announce that thanks to your generous donations, we were able to renovate our shed by adding climate control. Now, we are able to store more food to serve our guests. The shed space is being loaned to the pantry by Arcola United Methodist Church where the pantry is housed. Our thanks to everyone who donated to make this possible.
Big thanks to Pantry Board Members, Lori Bell, Charlene Jones and Ann Pramis for their efforts during the recent LYNFYN food drive. They, along with over 35 pantry volunteers, spent over 160 hours of time to sort and stock over 3,800 lbs of food that came in during the LYNFYN food drive on May 7, 2016. LYNFYN is the Love Your Neighbor Feed Your Neighbor Food Drive which is a multi-faith county-wide food drive that benefits numerous pantries in our area. We are grateful for the support of LYNFYN and the many families who donated.

Volunteer Spotlight:
This month we'd like to recognize the students of John Champe High School. During the 2015/2016 school year, staff and students at JCHS donated over $2000 and 4156 lbs of food to the pantry. Several school organizations donated, but two clubs at JCHS were especially active this year in helping the pantry - the Interact Club and the Feed the Need Club. We can't thank you enough! Go Knights!
Food Drive Stars: Thanks to Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, Girl Scout Troops 3169, J. Michael Lunsford Middle School, John Champe HS Feed the Need Club, Keller Williams Loudoun Gateway, LYNFYN, Megabytes Eatery, Pragathitrust, and Temple Beth Torah. They raised over 5718 lbs and $913 last month.
Thank You Volunteers!
