1) Equality Report Card 2018

Yesterday, the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women made public the priority actions that will be assessed for the next Equality Report Card. Members of the Council have selected forty-five specific actions in nine categories that they will assess.

3) Argyle Shore Strawberry Social

The annual Strawberry and Ice Cream Social hosted by the Argyle Shore Women’s Institute will be held from 6:00 to 8:30 PM, Monday, 4 July 2016 – rain or shine -- at the Argyle Shore Community Centre, 7654 Route 19.  Home baked goods also on sale. Take-out available.  Tickets at the door: Adults $8 / Children 12 & under $4. Everyone welcome. Map
 



 

4) DiverseCity Multicultural Festival - Montague

Celebrate Canadian multiculturalism at the 3rd annual DiverseCity Multicultural Festival in Montague on Sunday, July 3rd, as part of Montague Summer Days.

Join us at Waterfront Park on Sunday, July 3rd to experience all the many splendid cultural offerings found across our great Island. You'll discover beautiful hand crafts, cultural information displays, delicious international cuisine, children's games and activities, and great entertainment on the mainstage. 

DiverseCity is celebrated in three Island communities each summer. Be sure to join in us in "Montague the Beautiful" this Sunday!

5) Ice Cream Social

Abortion Access Now PEI is celebrating! After 30 years, the women of PEI will finally have access to abortion services in their own province by the end of this year. Friends and supporters are invited to Beanz Café between 5 and 7 p.m. on Friday, July 8th, for ice cream, and a tribute to all of the women over the past three decades who were so instrumental in achieving this milestone, including lawyers Nasha Nijhawan and Kelly McMillan who crafted an unbeatable legal challenge to PEI's (lack of) abortion policy.  (Source: Facebook Event Page)




 

6) Governor General’s Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case


Once again this fall, Status of Women Canada will honour five individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to advancing equality for women and girls with the Governor General’s Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case.

The deadline to submit a nomination for the 2016 Persons Case Awards has been extended to July 10, 2016. Know someone who’s helped advance gender equality? Nominate them today.

Prix du Gouverneur général en commémoration de l’affaire « personne »

Une fois de plus, Condition féminine Canada honorera cet automne cinq personnes qui ont contribué de façon exceptionnelle à l’avancement de l’égalité des sexes en leur remettant le Prix du Gouverneur général en commémoration de l’affaire « personne ».

La date limite pour présenter une candidature en vue des prix de 2016 a été reportée au 10 juillet 2016. Vous connaissez quelqu’un qui a aidé à faire avancer l’égalité des sexes? Proposez sa candidature aujourd’hui!




 

7) Fergusson Foundation 2016 Grants Program

 
The Fergusson Foundation is accepting proposals for funding from registered charities, for projects dealing with the problem of family violence.

The organizations selected will be awarded a grant, to a maximum of $3,000 to undertake projects in areas including counseling, training, public education and educational research.

To be considered for funding, the proposal project must fall into one of the following categories: the operation of emergency  shelters and the provision of counseling and other services to victims of family violence; the development of counseling and  training programs for the education of counselors working with  victims of family violence; the development of public education programs about family violence; the support of educational  research into the causes of family violence, and to assist with the  education and training of victims of family violence.
 
The deadline for receiving applications is Monday, August 8th, 2016.
 
The Fergusson Foundation is committed to being a catalyst for the prevention and elimination of family violence.  We do this by increasing the awareness and understanding of its complexity, through: encouraging open dialogue, funding research into the causes and forms of family violence, promoting educational programs and supporting organizations providing services to those impacted by violence and abuse.

8) TORCH Program for Women Leaders

Leadership opportunity for PEI Women: The TORCH Program is a course for women who work in the non-profit/voluntary sector and have an interest in developing their leadership and management skills. Preference will be given to women working in organizations that support the improvement of the status of women.
 
The program includes a 15-week course that will be held Wednesday evenings (3 hours per week for a total of 45 hours) at the Royalty Centre in Charlottetown from September 6 to Dec 13, 2016. A second component of the TORCH Program is the development of an ongoing learning community and peer support group among cohort members.
