Committee Spotlight: Special Events
Attendees at the NOW! Annual Conference can agree that the Special Events Committee plays an integral role in planning the conference. After all, committee members work to identify and select general session speakers who set the tone of the conference, inspire attendees and remind us all of the importance of the work we do. The Special Events Committee meets in the early months of the year to establish goals and make final selections for general session topics and speakers. Learn more about their process and what to expect at the NOW! Conference.

Transit Mixer - Networking with HC Community
Thursday, August 18 from 4:30 - 6:30pm
Evens Station Lofts (map)
Free to members!

Location, location, location! The location of an affordable housing community plays a pivotal role in overall affordability. Without access to transportation options, household budgets are stretched even further with housing and transportation (H +T) costs consuming 50% or more of their monthly income. As a result, Colorado housing developers and the transit community have fostered important partnerships to put housing in areas with access to public transit, allowing residents to redirect budget resources to other needs while accessing reliable and affordable transportation. Join us at the Evans Station Lofts’ rooftop patio for an informal networking mixer and celebration of transit projects that help keep affordable housing affordable. Register now!

Policy Update

It’s an election year (perhaps you have noticed?) and Congress has entered their August recess early – adjourning on July 14 for a seven-week period where they will be in their home districts, ready to meet with constituents.

Anyone who represents Colorado knows that affordable housing is one of the biggest issues facing our state, and there are several federal programs that are the backbone to developing and preserving housing affordability in Colorado.  Now is the time to reach out to your local congressional representatives and schedule a brief visit with them or their staff.  Click here for practical suggestions, resources and Congressional contact information.

Colorado is nationally-known for its growing economy – and escalating housing costs. Housing Colorado executive director Sara Reynolds discussed the Colorado housing crisis, and the importance of funding federal housing programs, with Sen. Elizabeth Warren while on a recent trip to Washington, D.C.
