Work on the new ampitheatre is proceeding alongside numerous campus projects this summer. A stage canopy is being built, the stage is being wired and new sod has been laid. At this point it's not hard to imagine the variety of outdoor events that will soon take place in this beautiful setting. 
This week, SWU is starting a 10-day intensive summer experience designed to help high school students explore how their gifts, abilities, personalities and passions line up with God’s calling on their lives. The Fellowship of the Called Youth Camp at SWU is a 10-day summer intensive institute for rising high school freshmen through recent high school graduates. Read more>>

SWU's Dean Grile accepts a check from Elizabeth Milam of SCASFAA (S.C. Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators) for $2,500 for a scholarship for one of DePayne Middleton Doctor’s daughters, who attends Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte.
Doctor, a SWU alumna and member of SWU’s Charleston staff, was one of the nine victims of the tragic shooting June 17, 2015 at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. Grile is senior director of enrollment and academic services and Charleston regional director,

Personnel announcements

Rob Hudson has been appointed as dean of institutional effectiveness and strategic planning beginning July 25. Hudson completed his BS in public law and government and a master of public administration from Eastern Michigan University, and is ABD for his EdD from Northeastern University. He is coming to SWU from Gardner-Webb as associate vice president of institutional assessment. Prior to that he worked in institutional research and planning and assessment at Barton College. Hudson also served in the Marine Corps Reserves as combat engineer/platoon leader.
 
Kady Curl began July 1 as the new admissions coordinator, based primarily in Greenville. Curl completed her BS in kinesiology at University of Montevallo (Ala.), and her MEd (physical education and health) from King University (Tenn.). In addition to serving as an adjunct faculty at King, she was a graduate assistant coach for women’s volleyball there. Debra Nodine, admissions coordinator, has transitioned to Central as her primary base for nontraditional student recruiting.  

Meredith Gaskin is serving a temporary assignment as human resources assistant this summer following the birth of a second daughter to Keri Stewart, human resources coordinator. Keri, Chad and Kinsley welcomed Cambree (19 inches, 7 lbs. 8 ozs.) on June 29. All are doing well!
 
Matthew Thorpe begins employment on Aug. 1 in the new position of coordinator of intramural activities. Thorpe received his BS in cross cultural studies this past May from Toccoa Falls College and is originally from Maryland. He gained experience at Toccoa Falls directing the intramurals program as a student assistant, and has most recently as a student assistant for athletics and as resident assistant.

Congratulations!

Dr. Priscilla Bray Hammond ('06) contributed a chapter on transformational leadership to a textbook that has recently been published. Leadership in the Wesleyan Way: An Anthology for Forming Leaders in Wesleyan Thought and Practice compiles contributions of more than two dozen Wesleyan scholars and practitioners in various fields (theology, biblical studies, spiritual formation, organizational leadership, etc.) Hammond is an adjunct professor for online and onsite courses offered by SWU.
