At the crossroads after Pentecost...
Jesus appoints others to extend and expand God’s mission. And this continues. How do we understand Jesus’ instructions and our being appointed and sent, individually and as a community? Welcome your and our appointment to God’s mission for and with others. Welcome all!

With Appreciation for the anniversary celebration and gift...

Thank you to the congregation for the very thoughtful celebration and generous gift to both Lori and me recognizing the 30th Anniversary of my ordination. It is very much appreciated and we look forward to the trip in May of 2017 to the
Festival of Homiletics in San Antonio, Texas. It is a gift of God’s grace, and a
privilege and joy to serve in this community, and for 30 years in the ELCIC and the Church universal. Thank you and thanks be to God.
Reforming for Mission asks:

How / Where is God’s Spirit present in national decisions like Britain’s, days of celebration like Canada Day, or national tragedies like Turkey’s?

Pride Parade Next Sunday, July 10

Everyone is invited to join in the
Pride Parade again this year to express solidarity with LGBTQ people and celebrate diversity in our community, by walking as Lutherans together with others. We have Reconciling in Christ tattoos to hand out, a car that will be moving with us for those who are not able to walk the whole distance, and a ‘Lutherans for Pride’ banner. Bring water and sunscreen. We will meet at approximately 12 noon at the corner of Douglas and Pandora.

Refugee Fundraiser!

Grace Lutheran Church (1273 Fort Street, Victoria) will be hosting a BBQ Drive-Thru and Driveway Sale on Saturday, July 16.  We have been invited to
participate in the fundraiser in a couple of different ways:
*We are looking for donations of art, handmade crafts and homemade baking to sell at the Driveway Sale.  Please bring all donations to the church by Friday, July 15, clearly marked “Refugee Fundraiser” and place the items in the Rotunda.
*A small crew of people are needed the evening of July 15 (7pm - 9:30pm) to help with set up and pricing.
*Two shifts of people power are needed for the 16th:  9am-1pm + 1pm-5pm.

All proceeds will help fund our 2 refugee sponsorship cases – Diane, the
Burundian woman in Rwanda and Feruz, the Eritrean woman living in
Ethiopia.  Please keep these two young women in your prayers.

A sign-up sheet and more information are posted in the hallway –
Thank you for your help and support!

A note of gratitude to all members of church:

I was cleaning out a drawer this week and found a sermon from long ago that I had saved.  It was given on a radio broadcast on “The Lutheran Hour” in 1969 by Dr. Oswald Hoffman.  It was titled “Be Obnoxious in Prayer.”  Dr. Hoffman ended his sermon with:  “Lord God, teach us to pray.  Give us faith to pray,  Hope to pray,  and love to pray.  Lord God, for the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, teach us to pray.  Amen.”

Please accept my sincere gratitude to you for all your prayers for me.  I pray for you that your joy may be full.

Work Bee for Spread the Mulch Night

Everyone who is able is invited to come out on Monday evening, July 11th, with wheel barrows,
rakes and shovels and work gloves to help spread a load of mulch on the garden beds around the church.
Start time is 7 pm and with enough help, we should be finished before 9 pm. The mulch will help keep weeding to a minimum and conserve moisture for the plants.
Light refreshments provided.
Help Needed in Finding a Home

A Constituent Group sponsoring a Syrian refugee family having difficulty finding accommodation is seeking help finding a 3 bedroom  home up to $2000.00 per month. Any information towards such an end would be greatly appreciated. Please email mangus@uvic.ca.  Thank you.
