Ofsted has released new figures showing that 1.4m+ more children now attend better schools than in 2010.

The latest maintained schools and academies inspections and outcomes data shows that 21% of schools (all types) are outstanding, 65% are good, 13% require improvement and 1% are inadequate.

North East MP Pat Glass resigns as Shadow Education Secretary

Pat Glass, MP for North West Durham, has resigned from her new role of Shadow Education Secretary just two days after accepting the post. Mrs Glass said on social media: “It is with a heavy heart that I have today resigned as Shadow SoS (Secretary of State for) Education. My dream job but the situation is untenable.”

Schools Northeast   The number of children in England receiving free school meals has hit a 15 year record low, according to analysis of DfE figures by The Guardian. 14.5% of pupils at state primaries receive FSM, compared with 15.6% a year ago and 18% in 2012, the lowest since records were first collected in 2001. The national rate of pupils receiving FSM at all schools fell from 15.2% to 14.3% this year, with the proportion of pupils at secondary schools dipping to 13.2%.  Read more >
