Free Tai Chi classes in Dogwood Park begin July 5.

History Hike


Learn Cookeville connections to some of our country's presidents on a July 9 History Hike at the Cookeville Museums.

Fitness


Check out the fitness class schedule for July!

In this 2-day workshop designed for children 7-11 years old, students will learn how to draw and/or improve pencil drawings. The instructor will demonstrate simple step-by-step methods by using shapes and outlines to create fun characters. Participants should bring a sketch tablet, kneaded eraser and a #2 pencil. Instructor Austin Mesler is a professional artist living in Cookeville. He teaches after school art classes for 2nd-4th graders in Putnam County Schools. Preregistration is required.

Join us as we work to become a “Healthier Cookeville” in the initiative to become designated a Healthier TN Community.

A series of walks will take place in two of our beautiful parks, Cane Creek and Dogwood throughout July. What better way to get moving, active and enjoy a summer outing with your family than to stroll through these scenic parks?

These free walking events are designed to highlight healthy activity and a sense of community.

If you’re participating, feel free to take a photo by the “We’re working to become a Healthier TN Community” banner and submit your photo to the City of Cookeville or the Leisure Services Facebook page.

Morning walks in Cane Creek Park along the lake.  Walks to begin at 8 a.m. at the walking trail entrance by Cane Creek Rec. Center.

Visit the Cookeville History Museum's latest exhibit: My Vote is Power! An Exhibit for Kids. Geared toward 1st to 4th graders, this hands-on exhibit explores democracy in America. Cast your vote, design a poster, enjoy some quiet time in our reading nook, become a historic/patriotic figure in the dress-up area and have fun with our lighthearted introduction to the election process! The exhibit continues through July 30. The museum is open Wednesday- Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and admission is free!

History Hike

Saturday, July 9 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

July History Hike will be Presidential. Did you know there are Cookeville connections to several U.S. presidents? Come stroll between the Cookeville History Museum and the Cookeville Depot Museum on Saturday, July 9 anytime from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Enjoy refreshments at each museum and along the way, you just may learn some interesting facts about Cookeville and PRESIDENTIAL HISTORY!! A free event.

Community Band Concerts

The Cookeville Community Band performs free concerts at the Dogwood Performance Pavilion in Dogwood Park every other Monday during the summer. Concerts in July are on the 11th and 25th, with a special patriotic performance on Sunday, July 3. These free performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

Enjoy a performance by country trio Post Monroe. Ashlee Hewitt, Whitney Duncan and Shelby McLeod meld their distinct voices, backgrounds and life experiences together to create Post Monroe. "Our sound is our voices," Ashlee explains. "They're different. They're unique. The blend of them together makes Post Monroe what it is."

Race for the Park

After Dark - Race for the Park 8K is a community running event which features a race course shaped in the form of the number "8" and is for ages 13 and up. We also offer, free of charge, the After Dark - Kids for the Park 1M for kids under 12. The cost for participation in the 8K event is $30 prior to the early registration deadline of July 24th and $35 thereafter including race day. All fees are non-refundable and each early registrant is guaranteed a T-shirt and cinch bag. The event supports events and improvements in Dogwood Park.This year's race is scheduled for Friday, August 5.
