"I believe that all dreams have a deeper meaning, whether it is longing to be wanted, or even a fantasy. I find dreams to be imperative to the creative mind because anything is possible in a dream."
Zenay, student at 826 Valencia

Summer is always an exciting time at 826—from our annual Staff Development Conference in June to an influx of new student publications, there's a lot happening around these parts and we can't wait to share the latest (and greatest) with you.

Looking back on this year's Staff Development Conference!
Each June, 826 staffs from sea to shining sea come together for three delightfully informative days at our annual Staff Development Conference.

This year's conference—held in the land of 826michigan—allowed us to learn from each other and discover new ways to deepen our impact and improve our work.

To name a few of the many highlights:
The conference would not have been possible without the generosity and support of our various benefactors. We're sending our sincerest thanks to: And last but not least, our amazing hosts, collaborators, and snack-suppliers, Zingerman’s Community of Businesses, and the remarkable staff and board of 826michigan.

We left Michigan with hearts full of gratitude for the immense wisdom and diverse perspectives we gained throughout the week. 'Til next year!

Powerful Spoken Word Piece from an 826 Boston Student

"Girls from countries like mine know too well that the price of womanhood is pain,
That if blood doesn’t constantly trickle down your thighs, you’re still a child.
Girls like me are too accustomed to changing ourselves to achieve a culture’s definition of woman."

Agnes Ugoji, a sophomore at the John D. O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science and 826 Boston student, identifies herself as a writer—and rightfully so. In this video, she performs her powerful piece, "White Feminism and Girls Like Me," at the Louder Than a Bomb: Massachusetts Indie Finals, where she took first place.
