Vadnais Heights Economic
Development Corporation

The VHEDC is a group of business leaders engaging with community stakeholders to enhance the economic vitality of our community.
Executive Director Notes
Summer is in full swing! What a great season for a new Farmers Market in Vadnais Heights. Thank you to members of City Center Task Force, made up of area business leaders and city representatives, who were instrumental in bringing this to the community! Check it out on Wednesdays from 2 to 6 pm in the parking lot of the Helene Houle Medical Clinic. Market will run through September 28.

Summer is also the season of growing and expanding businesses. Fresh Thyme Grocery store is anticipated to open in August. We are also looking forward to the opening of Starbucks Coffee and Punch Pizza near Hwy 96 and Centerville Road in late summer. We continue to work with all theses businesses as they near opening day.

Speaking of openings, this week Gable Pines Senior Living opened its doors. The facility is beautiful, and I would encourage you all to attend their grand opening on July 27th.

On another note, the VHEDC Board of Directors is wrapping up its strategic plan. Thank you to Nancy Hoglund of Hoglund Coaching for her guidance in this effort. We can confidently say that the organization is better positioned than ever before to help grow the local economic vitality of the area. We will have some exciting announcements at the end of the summer.

A final thank you to all those who golfed and/or supported our golf tournament this year.  We could not do any of our workforce initiatives without these proceeds. In the past year, we've supported area interns and brought busloads of students and educators out of the classroom and into business settings. What a great tribute to Keith Warner this event is as we continue his legacy to making the area a thriving place to live, work, and operate a business.

Happy Fourth of July!
Happening around town!
Exciting developments including Fresh Thyme's anticipated opening in August, Gable Pines Senior Living opened its doors on June 28th, the City Center Task Force visiting opening day at the Farmers Market, progress being made on new Peoples Midwest Bank Building, and Pet Supplies Plus gets a warm welcome!
VHEDC Launches Workforce Success Stories Initiative: Showcasing & Highlighting Careers in Manufacturing and Skilled Trades

Have you heard the forecasts regarding workforce shortages?  The pros and cons – and costs of a college education vs. trade and vocational opportunities?  The VHEDC has been hard at work finding ways for local manufacturing and skilled labor trades to increase visibility and interest in the wide variety of career options they have to offer.

“Success Stories” is a great way to get the word out about YOUR company.  We are looking for companies who are willing to share their stories or stories of their employees about how they got involved and became successful in meaningful careers in manufacturing or skilled labor trades.  It’s easy to do!  We use a nine (9) question format to gather key information for the story.  The story is then reviewed by a professional writer for editing or further interview, prior to publication.

In participating, your company is featured in a colored 3x7 feature in the White Bear Press.  Each story includes a section to highlight your business and promote current job openings. In addition, the stories will be displayed in the 2017 VHEDC Directory, which has a distribution of 4,000 copies throughout the area for an entire year.  The publication will also be made available through other online resources, including Century College, local workforce centers, and local high schools.

To participate in this exciting new opportunity, contact
Ling Becker.

Vadnais Heights Economic Development Corporation Accepting Nominations for 2016 Business Awards

The VHEDC will begin to take nominations for its annual dinner awards beginning on May 16, 2016.

Each year the VHEDC bestows business awards to area businesses for their professional success and contributions to the community.  In 2015, there were three award recipients announced at the VHEDC Annual Dinner.  Those honored included: Reell Precision Manufacturing (Keith Warner Standard of Excellence Award), MME group (VHEDC Business Achievement Award) and the Vadnais Heights Community Foundation (Community Partnership Award).

2016 Award categories are as follows:

Keith Warner Standard of Excellence Award: This honor is bestowed on a business that has shown a singular degree of excellence in the areas of business success, philanthropy and community service.

VHEDC Business Achievement Award: This award created to establish special tribute for outstanding companies that continue to thrive and support the local economy.  Recipients demonstrate excellence in their professional service industry.

Community Partnership Award: The VHEDC proudly recognizes our outstanding partners for their exemplary commitment and accomplishments. As collaborative partners, these organizations help the VHEDC to advance its mission of ensuring a thriving local business economy in Vadnais Heights and the surrounding areas.

To be eligible for nomination a business/organization must be either located in Vadnais Heights or be a VHEDC investor. The business must demonstrate a strong commitment to social responsibility and exemplify strong community involvement. The nominated business must not have won the same award in the last five years. A business cannot win more than one award in a single year.  Nominations can be made on the VHEDC website. Nominations will close on September 1.

Winners will be announced at the VHEDC’s Annual Dinner on November 1st  at the Vadnais Heights Commons.
