This week marked a State Visit of Mexican President, Enrique Peña Nieto, to Canada. To kick off an official day of meetings, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Mexian President started the day with a morning run across the Ottawa River on the Alexandra Bridge and through the Gatineau. It's always promising to see political leadership promoting healthy behaviours!
On June 17, 2016, Bill C-14, the Medical Assistance in Dying Legislation, received Royal Assent and is now law. Click here for more information from the Government of Canada on this legislation.
The CFPC continues to find ways to support family physicians with respect to Medical Assistance in Dying, issuing a Guide on Ethical Reflection. The CFPC is committed to supporting its members through education and guidance to ensure that there are well-defined universal standards that govern physician-assisted dying.The CFPC will support family physicians as we transition to this new legislation. We will also look for support from our colleagues in Quebec for whom assisted-dying has been law for the past 6 months.
