Newsletter Summer 2016
With the summer in mind it is time for some updates of our work. We started great new collaborations and want to highlight a few very special screenings. For latest news and updates check our website and facebookpage.
Patagonia tour in the UK
Last May the Dutch Solar Cinema travelled by ferry to the Lake District in the UK to execute screenings for outdoor clothing company Patagonia. Their aim is to use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis. From their foundation they support Environmental and Social Initiatives. As part of their Worn Wear tour a special screening of Terry Abrahams film: 'Life of a mountain: Blencathra' was organised at the foot of this beautifull mountain. The challenging UK weather and a lovely persistent crowd made this an unforgettable experience.
‘Nacht van de Vluchteling’ screening At Home In The World
On the 18th of June during the national ‘Nacht van de Vluchteling’, a special night in the Netherlands to raise awareness for the refugee crises, we organised a free screening of the documentary At Home In The World (by: Adreas Koefoed) in The Hague. The screening was organized as part of Moving Docs, Moving Docs is a partnership founded for the joint distribution of documentaries across Europe with the aim to create innovative outreach strategies trough different platforms.
We attracted the Red Cross, Humanity House and Film theatre The Hague to collaborate as partners in organising this screening. After the screening a debate took place about the issues raised in the film, hosted by Iranian-Dutch programmer Bahram Sadeghi. As a start up before the film a dance group of young refugees performed. Photocredit: Floris Scheplitz.
New Solar Cinema in Croatia
We launched the Solar Cinema Adria three weeks ago, during Screen on the Green in Maksimir park in Zagreb. Our Croatian partner Via Solis is now the proud owner of Solar Cinema Adria. We visited Zagreb, held a press conference and were present at the first solar powered screening of Solar Cinema Adria. Also our Go Greener Shorts program was shown and the screening plus this novelty in the region were broadly announced in the media. We are very proud of our partner and wish them a wonderful season.
New collaborations and launches
We are spreading our mission around the world and are teaming up with very nice new organisations and new Solar Cinemas will hit the road soon!

Arizona - The Loft Cinema
The next launch of a new Solar Cinema will be in Arizona, executed by The Loft Cinema from Tuscon.
The installation of all solar equipment is now being done and The Loft Solar Cinema will hit the road this summer! We are very proud to have our first representative in the USA.

Kosovo - Dokufest
In August we will present ourselves at Dokufest, Documentary and Shortfilm Festival in  Kosovo. Announcing our plans to launch Solar Cinema Kosovo in September 2016. The Solar Cinema Kosovo will start touring extensively throught the countryside of Kosovo and along the borders of Albania and Monte-Negro. Working together with cultural and educational institutions.

Sahara - FiSahara
As you all know, last year we visited FiSahara a human rights film festival in the Western Sahara and we started fundraising for a 100% non profitable project to supply all 5 refugee camps with film the year round. We successfully obtained a number of funds and are working hard to build  Solar Cinema Western Sahara. The remote area and the difficult living conditions makes it challenging, however we learn a lot and believe from the bottom of our hearts in this very special project. FiSahara festival will take place in October and we plan to the launch immediately thereafter and tour with festival films trough the region.

Australia
Our latest and most recent collaboration was started with Katharine Community Art Centre in the North of Australia. They are a vibrant and integrated community through delivering art and cultural experiences. The diversity and visibility of artists and art practices in the region is increased. A crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for Solar Cinema Australia is being set up.
