Got some spare time at camp?

Grab your pencils and sketchbook; it’s time to get creative! Along with all the fabulous activities at your feet, you will also discover our very own creative area.

Get hold of those black sacks and use your imagination to create beautiful, eco-friendly garments to wow us all.

Got a load of newspapers lying around your house just collecting dust? Bring them to the camp and explore the possibilities of newspaper design. From hats to bags, dresses to tops, create whatever you want.

Grasp your inner fashion and design an outfit for your very own mannequin. Whether it be from themes like ‘Weird and Wonderful” or “Danger Ahead”. It’s up to you what you come up with. You can use the world around you as an inspiration or even theme your idea from different eras.

Get your thinking caps on, to create your own badges. A badge to say hi or a badge with a self-portrait. It’s up to you, you can even create mini Subcamp Mascot badges.

Don’t forget to practise your strut so you can strike a pose down our catwalk. Make sure to keep it fresh and up to date to show your own unique style.

A Little Reminder

We can’t wait to see you at camp, but first we still need suggestions for our mascot’s name. Just to remind you, here he is again:.
What do you need to do?
  • Grab pencils, sketchbook, black sacks, newspapers
  • Get creative and start designing
  • Get practising to strut and strike a pose along our catwalk
  • Name our Mascot

Breaking News:  Global Release of Our Changing World

We’re so excited that through this wonderfully uplifting song, we can journey through our changing world from the caveman age to the beautiful city skyline of the present day.  Importantly, we highlight how we as Scouts and Guides can change the world together.

Learning and singing Our Changing World is a great way for your Scouts and Guides to prepare for the Jamboree.  With this energetic song the legacy of EIJ 2016 will live on, reminding us all of how together we can change the world – today, and in the future.

So without further delay…
‘Open your eyes,
look around at our changing world.
There’s so much out there to see.
Share your hearts with each other,
we’ll change the world.

Together,
at the Jamboree!’
What do you need to do?
  • Listen to our Superb Our Changing World Jamboree Song
  • Add it to your playlist
  • Share with your Participants and their families
  • By our first day at the Jamboree, we’ll all be singing it together

Are your Scouts and Guides born to be on the stage?

At the Jamboree, we have an amazing opportunity for your Guides and Scouts, in Groups or as individuals, to showcase their talent on one of our stages.  Just like ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, the EIJ Presents Team will have a panel of judges (alas without a golden buzzer or all the glamour) who will select our Subcamp Winner to go on to perform on our Celebration Day on the big stage in front of an audience of 10,000!  This is a once-in-a-life-time opportunity, so please encourage your young people to take part.

However, it’s important that you act today, as we need the acts to be submitted on YouTube no later than 5pm on 21st July.

Click here for full instructions on how to be Part of the Show
What do you need to do?
  • Tell your participants about this amazing opportunity
  • Point anyone interested at the instructions on how to be Part of the Show
  • Remind everyone to submit their entry before 5pm on 21st July

Tastes of the World

As mentioned in our last Newsletter, we are having a Tastes of the World session and, to help with your planning, we can confirm that your session will take place on Tuesday.  We hope this will help you to choose your recipe taking into account storing any perishable foods.
What do you need to do?
  • Plan your recipe, and don’t forget your ingredients card to help with allergy advice for the participants

Your health and safety is our priority, and we need your support

To help ensure that our toilet and shower facilities are as hygienic as possible, we are asking each of you to support us in cleaning and refreshing them.  We realise this isn’t the most glamourous request you will receive, but sickness and illness can spread quickly so we all need to do our bit in keeping each and every one of us healthy.  Your Subcamp Leaders will speak to you about this and ask for volunteers for the ‘Cleaning Rota’.  If every leader volunteers just once, we will have the whole week easily covered.  Many hands make light work.
What do you need to do?
  • Volunteer to be on the Cleaning Rota at our Subcamp Hub
  • Remember to follow strict Health and Safety procedures
  • Remind your participants of the importance of hand washing and keeping clean
  • If you spot anything unusual (or not very nice) in the toilet or shower facilities, let your Subcamp Team know straight away so it can be sorted out promptly
Departures

Yes, sadly, Departure Day will come and after we’ve celebrated and partied on the Friday, we will all need to focus on returning the Jamboree Field back to a Normal Field.  We are all responsible for doing this, so we will be following a simple process to make sure the field is cleared of everything.

Of course, your Subcamp Leaders will give you more information during the Jamboree week, but so you are aware and can be prepared, here’s a quick summary:

  • You will need to depart the site on Saturday 6th August unless you have specified otherwise in your booking
  • As with arrivals, only one vehicle will be allowed onto site at a time and you will need to take everything to the outer ring for loading
  • You will need to clear everything from your site – this includes anything that you’ve made or purchased specifically for the Jamboree (such as your gateway, inflatable sofas etc)
  • You need to conduct a Jamboree Womble – in other words a litter pick where you create a moving row of people all focused on finding and picking up rubbish
  • Once you’re completely clear, your Subcamp Team will inspect your site
  • On inspection, your Subcamp Team will either highlight things that need to be done or give you approval to leave
  • On approval, you will be given an Exit Pass that you will need to hand in on departure
  • You will not be able to leave site without an Exit Pass
  • And then it’s farewell from us, and we look forward to seeing you again in 2020!
What do you need to do?
  • Bring black sacks (or similar) for your rubbish
  • Plan the disposal of any larger or specific items
  • Plan your departure day

What’s lovelier than Dinner Out?

And at the Jamboree you can do just that.  We are delighted to have Chubbys Restaurant on site all week, open during the day and evening.  Their menu is full to bursting with delicious food and drink which will suit all taste buds – young and old!

So why not take advantage of this, and take the night off from cooking one evening and treat your Group to a Dinner Date.
What do you need to do?
  • Arrange your menu so you can take a night off
  • Book into Chubbys on arrival at the Jamboree
  • Look forward to a relaxing evening
