As long as Eagle Fun Days has been around, it has been ever evolving. When I think of festivals, I think of people having fun, local businesses presenting their wares in booths for spectators, parades, music, and fair food - we have all that. What sets Eagle Fun Days apart, are activities like the famous Wet and Wild Parade, subjecting spectators to a much needed douse of water and the biggest water fight around. We have a Cornhole Tournament (bean bag toss) complete with bragging rights and a Cornhole set to the winners. We have a custom car show with appearances by the Potato Pinups, a Fun Run benefiting Eagle High School and we go out in style with the return of the spectacular fireworks show! It’s the time of year for Eagle Fun Days! The City of Eagle staff and partners have been working diligently to improve this ever-evolving event.
 
FRIDAY, July 8
  • Family Fun Night - 6:00-9:00pm – Eagle City Hall (660 E. Civic ln.) Bigger and better than ever before! Bounce houses, dunk tank, hunter education, and top it off with fair food vendors. Kids activities with: Eagle Fire, Eagle Police Department, Eagle Nazarene Church, Idaho Fish and Game, Idaho State Parks, Air Guard, Internet Crime Bus, Skyhawks, Forest Service, the Eagle Museum, Eagle Library, HPC, and Comprehensive Plan Committee.
SATURDAY, July 9
  • 4th Annual Eagle Fun Day Run – 8:00am – Eagle City Hall - Cost $29 5K and 10K run/walk to benefit Eagle High School. Run through the beautiful streets of Eagle and new this year join FitOne for a FREE kids’ event at 9:00am. Kids ages 10 and under can join St. Luke's/FitOne in fun activities to earn cool prizes, all while learning about health and fitness.  Parents are welcome too!

  • Eagle Fun Days Opening Ceremonies - 11:15am – Heritage Park
  • Live Music and Fair Food Vendors 11:30am-midnight – Heritage Park and downtown
  • Market Vendors – 11:30am-7:00pm – Downtown Eagle
  • Custom Car Show – 12:00-4:00pm – Old State between Stierman and 2nd including Creekside Bible Fellowship (350 E State St.)
  • Wet and Wild Parade – 1:00pm – Iron Eagle to Stierman The famous Wet and Wild Parade returns to Eagle. If you haven’t participated before, this is the year for you. There is a “dry” Beach Boys themed parade that is directly followed by a huge water fight between the parade spectators and the “wet” floats. This year’s route starts along old State St. at Iron Eagle and ends at Stierman. Join in the fun and bring your water guns!
To participate as a float, fill out a parade application and email it to EFDParade@gmail.com.

The Grand Marshall 2016 is former Eagle Mayor (1976-83) Jerry Deckard and his wife Carol. Look for them at the parade! 
  • Aerial Yoga - Intermittent performances starting at 2:30pm - Heritage Park
  • 2nd Annual Cornhole Tournament – 3:00pm – Heritage Park – Cost $12 per team Prove your beanbag tossing skills in this fun-for-all-levels game. Teams of two will battle it out for bragging rights and champions will receive their own cornhole set.

Volunteer of the Month
The City of Eagle recognizes the importance of volunteerism and is taking a moment to thank those who selflessly give of themselves to the community.
KIM LYONS
The City of Eagle is pleased to recognize Kim Lyons as the Volunteer of the Month. Kim has been riding and racing mountain bikes at the Ada/Eagle Bike Park for years. She began giving back to the Bike Park in several ways. She volunteers hours and hours, with shovel in hand, repairing trails in her spare time. She recruits volunteers for trail maintenance and special events.  Last year, as a member of the Dirt Dolls, a large women’s mountain biking group, Kim provided invaluable advice to Eagle Parks and Recreation on matters concerning trails. Kim continues to make a difference in Eagle’s quality of life and we appreciate her efforts.

POW! BAM! HI-YA! July is Parks and Recreation Month and this year’s theme is super heroes! Be a local super hero and celebrate with the City of Eagle Parks and Recreation Department. The biggest way to celebrate with us is by participating at Eagle Fun Days on July 8th and 9th, 2016! On Friday, July 8th, join the super heroes of Parks and Recreation at Eagle City Hall from 6-9pm for Family Fun Night. There will be bounce houses, food trucks, sports activities, cornhole, police & fire obstacle courses, music and more! Then, on Saturday July 9th, celebrate Eagle as the city hosts a fun run, parade, Saturday Market, live music, a custom car show, cornhole tournament and so much more! Since it is Parks and Recreation Month, be sure to appreciate the events at Heritage Park located in the heart of downtown where most activities will be centered. Find your super powers by visiting a park, registering for a recreation program, or any of these activities any time in July.

Eagle Parks and Recreation provides and creates exceptional opportunities for play which improves the livability and quality of life for people while fostering respect for the natural and cultural environments of Eagle. Summer Reading Program - Library Director Steve Bumgarner
We’re half-way through the library’s Summer Reading Program, and there’s still plenty of time to register and help your kids be ready for school.  Your kids determine how many books they’ll read by July 31, and if they read the agreed-to number of books and report to Library staff about just a few of them, they’ll earn weekly prizes and be invited to a special evening to celebrate their achievement.  It’s an easy and fun way to avoid the “summer slide”, the decline of reading skills that occurs during the summer months.
 
Fit and Fall Proof is now offered at the Library.  This free exercise-based fall prevention program for older adults focuses on functional exercises that reduce the risk of falling.  It’s a great way to help stay active and safe.  Fit and Fall Proof meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 1:00 pm in the meeting room.
You’re able to download five (5) songs per week (they’re yours forever) AND stream music for three hours per day per card through the Library’s Freegal subscription, a collection of over 10,000,000 songs from thousands of music labels.  To stream or download music from Freegal, visit the library’s webpage (eaglepubliclibrary.org) and click on the music link.  Freegal is also available on mobile devices.  
 
The Library also has online access to The Value Line Investment Survey, a unique source of financial information designed to help investors make informed investment decisions that fit their individual goals and levels of risks.  To begin using this great service, visit the Library’s webpage (eaglepubliclibrary.org), click on the Research link and then the ValueLine logo.

In addition to the Summer Reading Program, there are many free programs happening at your Library this July, including:
  • Summer Fun : Ninjas!, Tuesday, July 12, 2:00 pm : Make ninja action figures and prove your ninja skills on an obstacle course.
  • Etched Glass (for teens), Tuesday, July 12, 4:00 pm : Create a unique decorative jar by etching your design into glass.
  • Totally Terrific Tie-Dye, Wednesday, July 20, 2:00 pm : At this family event for all ages, bring your own cotton t-shirt or other item and let your inner artist loose.
  • Pinterest for Beginners, Saturday July 23, 2:00 pm : Learn the basics of Pinterest.
  • Masterpiece for Kids : Paul Klee, Monday, July 25, 2:00 pm :  Known for his use of color, Klee’s work will inspire your colorful creation.

Eagle’s Only Parking Meter - Museum Coordinator Alana Dunn
The original Fun Fair in 1964 was successful because of the number of volunteers involved in making sure of its success; with that it was able to achieve its fundraising goals. Among its numerous promoters was Jim Dunn, a local parking meter representative. He arranged for the donation of a single meter that was fitted with a special sign labeled “Mayor’s Emergency Fund”, which was then used to publicize the fair’s fundraising efforts. The meter was placed in front of what was then the old library, now the Museum. Honorary mayor Bob Salter (Eagle’s first mayor was appointed in 1971) unveiled it during the Fun Fair festivities and today it resides here at the museum. It is still a proud symbol of Eagle’s community fundraising activities and the fact that the city has never charged for parking.
The Eagle Historical Society and the Eagle Historical Museum presents the “Community Cabinet.”
This collection of mice was on display for the month of June thanks to the Idaho Inkspots Calligraphy Guild.

Terri Thickstun

As a Northwest artist specializing in oil painting, Terri's works are best described as Portraits and Human Interest paintings, but also include a variety of Landscapes, and Cityscapes.
      Terri's history includes a long history of working as a Graphic Artist/Web Designer for Hewlett-Packard, acceptance into the Boise Art Museum's Idaho Artist Show, the Annual Zion’s Bank art show, participating artist in the annual Art and Roses outdoor show, participating artist in the Women and Children Alliance Charity Art Auction, teaching oil portrait painting from her studio, juror for the Centennial Juried Art Show for the Nampa Art Guild and also a member of the Oil Painters of America and Treasure Valley Art Alliance. Education includes a degree in Business Management. Art education has been through workshops, mentors and private study.
       Terri is the Idaho State Ambassador for the Portrait Society of America.
