Drones In Cape May, Lean Startup In Montclair, New Meetup In Clinton

  • In Cape May, a number of institutions including the United Nations, the American Red Cross, NJII and Newark-based tech startup Luftronix, came together to demonstrate the first FAA sanctioned 
  • The ship-to-shore demonstration came off without a hitch, despite high winds and choppy seas.

  • Rutgers scientists demonstrated a drone they developed that can fly and then go underwater, which they said was a first-of-its-kind engineering accomplishment.
  • Luftronix unveiled its precision navigation indoor drone technology which it hopes will be used for aircraft inspections.

  • Flying its drone inside a hangar that is now the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum, Luftronix noted that it had discovered corrosion on the bottom of an old World War II airplane.
  • The Lean Startup approach to founding companies was the topic of discussion at a Launch NJ presentation on June 23 at Montclair State University.

  • Startups have to learn as much as possible about prospective customers' need for their products before spending any more time and money on product development, speakers said.
  • This will help minimize the problem of launching a product that has little or no market demand.
  • The Hunterdon Tech Meetup held its inaugural meeting at The Office Mill coworking space in Clinton.
  • Housed in a charming old building, The Office Mill has a view of the river that runs through Clinton as well as the waterfall.

  • Aiko Thurlow, founder of ToolMuse, discussed the "Startup Toolbox," a set of her favorite apps, extensions and add-ins for increasing productivity.
  • She also explained how they worked.
  • Almost everyone in the room knew some of the apps such as Evernote and Slack that she discussed, but there were many other time-savers and organizational tools that most people had never tried.

Juniper OpenLab In Bridgewater Expands Its Reach Globally

Juniper Networks announced that it’s going to open six new OpenLab sites worldwide—in Sunnyvale, Calif., Amsterdam; London, Tokyo, Singapore, and Sydney. These new sites, modeled after the company's New Brunswick location, are expected to be in operation by the end of 2016. More.
