Howdy <<First Name>>,
It's summer and I am in art HEAVEN!
This edition is very Chicago-centric because I'm going to be here most of the summer, thanks to my 6-week digital journalism program for teens.
I finally have time to go to some of the local exhibitions I've been wanting to check out, including Kerry James Marshall: Mastery at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art and Invisible Man: Gordon Parks and Ralph Ellison in Harlem at the Art Institute of Chicago.
I'm also going to spend the summer trying to figure out how I can use my status as an educator to get some tickets for the Chicago production of the Tony Award-winning musical "Hamilton," cause I don't have $8,000 to spend on the resale market. Weirdly, as of today there are still some tickets left on Ticketmaster though. It's like people assumed they were sold out so they stopped looking.
Lastly, Chicago's own Jamila Woods (the angelic voice on "Blessings" by Chance the Rapper) has provided activists and Black Girl Magicians with a summer soundtrack. Tune in and give thanks.
Your Turn: I want to hear about the art events you plan on experiencing in your city this summer. Reply with your summer art picks and I'll include them in a future edition of The Highwater Weekly.
Stay Cool,
Chakka
