SfA statement on EU referendum result.

Scotland for Animals understands that after a majority vote to leave the European Union the Scottish Government has requested that it be involved in resulting negotiations with relevant authorities.

As EU legislation effectively limits the power of member states to implement legislation to improve animal welfare we ask that Scottish Ministers insist on, as part of any agreements, the following:

A ban on the transport of live animals from the UK to any other states within or outwith the EU

The extension of any legislation involving animals at time of slaughter to include killing in line with so-called cultural traditions

The inclusion of Invertebrates in any legislation involving animals at time of slaughter

The legalisation of the use of pithing during slaughter

A ban on the slaughter of animals without prior stunning

We ask that these initial requests be part of a wider framework for amended, or if needed new legislation for animal protection.
