Courage Is A Key Component Of Working Happy

For a first responder, courage is every day. In other professions, courage is required for you to honor your values, set your boundaries, say “no” when you have to and follow your dreams.  Without this courage, you will not find your way to working happy.

Courage is the ability to do something that frightens you. It requires mental and moral strength and the ability to withstand fear and difficulty. Why working happy asks this of you, is anybody’s guess. If life is a journey that makes you better, courage may give you what you need to make it down the road.

How can you develop courage? Here are some ways to consider:

  • Develop a level of comfort with risk; start small and go from there
  • Know your values and commit to them
  • Keep ethics and moral integrity non-negotiable in your life
  • Be willing to go off the beaten path in order to lead and not follow
  • Commit to working happy, even if it takes some time to get there

This newsletter’s intention is to communicate that it is within reach for you to work happy.  Develop your courage and you’ll be surprised how far it takes you!

What's Up For You?

We love answering your questions on your journey to working happy!

Q: Sometimes I wonder if I have it in me to make it in the sometimes ruthless world I work in. Decisions are made, risks taken with laser precision, without consideration of the “softer” elements of life – dignity, mutual respect, integrity. Is this ruthlessness, as I perceive it, required for success, Ann?

A: Whoa, you have opened quite a door with your question! Here is my take on it. The central element is to be true to yourself and honor your values. That is your compass. When things occur around you or decisions are in front of you, look at each situation with your own eyes and trust yourself to make the right moves.

Sometimes, others’ actions can shake you out of your comfort zone, leaving you feeling vulnerable and unsure. Your own emotions kick in and influence your perceptions. This is why you must build a foundation rooted in your values and truth.  From that foundation, the answer to your question will eventually become clear. You will know what you are a match for and what you are not.

Sometimes the world can seem “ruthless”, but with a steady foundation grounded in your values and truth, you will see more clearly your place in it. Then “success” will be yours, perhaps in a way you never expected it to happen.
