Hi! Dropping a line to let you know about a few upcoming events, one in New York, one in Berkeley, and one everywhere (that is, on the web). Chatty versions first; scroll down for the quick-'n-dirty! (No, not that kind of dirty!) Here we go:

New York first: I'll be doing
a duo gig with an old friend, the wonderful guitarist, Freddie Bryant. It's been YEARS since we've played together and I'm looking forward to this reunion. Please plan to join us for my first time playing at this venue:
Sunday, July 10th • 7 - 9ish pm
Bar Thalia (Upper West Siders, take note!)
2537 Broadway (entrance on 95th St.), New York

No cover charge. Sunday specials: $6 Bloody Marys & Mimosas $20 Pitchers of Symphony Sangria. They have a very reasonably priced food menu, as well.

Next, vocalist Tessa Souter and I have teamed up to write, "Out and About: The Super Fans," a new column at AllAboutJazz.com, and the debut column launches today! Tessa and I are both jazz vocalists who compose some of our own music, have backgrounds as professional writers, and lived in San Francisco before moving to New York. With so many things in common, perhaps it shouldn't be too surprising that we had pretty much the same idea about interviewing people we're calling Super Fans: those wonderful jazz lovers who go out to see lots and lots and lots of live jazz. There are some very interesting jazz lovers out there, and we think it's time to turn the spotlight on them. Our first column features 94-year-old Sal Capozucca, who's been going out to hear jazz for eighty years and saw Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday, and Louis Armstrong

Finally, I'll be teaching
CREATIVE VOCAL PERFORMANCE, a two-day masterclass at The Jazzschool in Berkeley, CA. I realize this announcement is not directly relevant to most everyone on this east coast mailing list. But maybe you know someone in the San Francisco Bay Area who'd enjoy and benefit from the class. If so, I'd appreciate it if you'd pass the info along to them. I sincerely love teaching classes like this, and I care very much about helping singers find more joy in singing, more freedom and greater expressiveness. Creative Vocal Performance, July 16 - 17, Berkeley, CA Spend a weekend defining, developing and applying the elements that make for a compelling and authentic performance — one the touches the listener. More details and registration HERE (and save money by registering in advance).

Feedback from previous workshop participants:

This was my third session with Andrea Wolper. I'm amazed at how much I've learned in these workshops. I came to the first one very shy and hesitant but I'm gaining more and more confidence under Andrea's watchful eyes and ears. Her comments and suggestions are very inspirational. Don't know how she does it but she can "zero in" on some aspect of my performance and offer insight into what could make it more meaningful. Forget the saying "Those who can do; those who can't teach," as Andrea can do both and much, much more!

I just wanted to let you know that I got so much out of your workshop. It turned out to be a catalyst for me to do some digging about how I express myself as a singer or if I am even expressing "myself"...I don't have the answers for now but strangely enough, it feels liberating to be asking myself these questions. ..  I am so inspired...so thanks again!
Vocalist, Berkeley

Thanks for reading!
Love, Andrea

Got questions? Drop me a line.

What is it about the singers who really touch your soul? Can you learn to be as emotionally expressive as your favorites, to allow what's uniquely you to come to the fore? I think you can!
