Bothy Stores Workshop Weekend - 16 to 18 July - Isle of Eigg

We have limited places remaining on our Bothy Stores Workshop Weekend on the Isle of Eigg to be held on 16-18 July.  Exploring materials and techniques involved in the production of our commissioned products for Sweeney’s Bothy, the weekend is an opportunity to meet and work alongside designer and weaver Kirsty McDougall, and artists James Rigler and Virginia Hutchison.

Hutchison and Rigler will lead a metal casting workshop. Collecting polystyrene foam washed up on the beaches the workshop will focus on designing and carving cooking utensils to be cast in aluminium employing a lost foam metal casting technique using a flat-pack mobile furnace designed and built by Hutchison.

Kirsty McDougall offers a workshop that will explore the environment of the Bothy on Eigg as a starting point for each participant to produce a hand-woven sampler. Working with wools from Highlands and Islands of Scotland, and with beach drift as inspiration, the workshop will explore tapestry and weave through their historic and local connections, in a relaxed and creative environment.

For more information and to book one of the few remaining places contact Rachel at bothyresidencies@gmail.com or visit the dedicated website page

Self-Funded Residency Opportunities

Over the past few years we have hosted a rich and varied programme of independent self initiated residencies at both Inshriach and Sweeney’s bothies.

We are now accepting applications from practising artists, makers and researchers from across all disciplines for a series of 1-week, self funded residencies at Sweeney’s Bothy and Inshriach Bothy. Due to substantial over subscription, proposals will now be selected using a ballot system. Self-Funded Residency opportunities are available for dates between October 2016 and January 2017 at a subsidised rate of £250/week.

To apply, applicants must provide a 200 word proposal outlining what you would like to work on at the bothy, 200 words describing your work and a CV evidencing an ongoing and active practice. To apply please follow the link: www.thebothyproject.org/self-funded-residencies
