We will be saying good-bye soon to very faithful members here at NFCN.

Kathy McCall has been a faithful member here for 22 years, serving as treasurer of her Sunday School classes for 20 years.  She has been an accountant at The Hermitage, and is leaving to accept an Accounting Professor position at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee.  We wish you well, Kathy!

Ken and Karen Bryant have been involved members here since 2010, serving in the ELL Ministry among other things, and Ken was interim pastor at Glencliff Hispanic Church for many months.  Former missionaries and Nazarene University professors, they are moving to Venice, Florida to join friends there in retirement.  Blessings, Ken and Karen!

The last Sunday for each of these will be July 10, and the Koinonia Class which they attend will be having a farewell on that day during Sunday School

The largest "Branch Eat Out" yet happened last Sunday at Kabuto in Goodlettsville.  37 "shared their lives together" as our Vision calls for!   It was an awesome time of fellowship!

FREEDOM TO...

As we approach the 240th birthday of our nation, to be celebrated here at NFCN in style at the annual 4th of July Block Party next Monday evening, I have been thinking about what freedom really means.

I preached a series of messages titled "FREEDOM FROM...FREEDOM TO."  The point of each sermon was that we can be freed from something that has a sinful or negative hold on our life, and can then be freed TO something better.  I believe that's scriptural and also have found it to be true in practice.

Our nation was founded on principles of "freedom from" or "freedom of" - in reaction to less-than-acceptable levels of freedom elsewhere in the world at that time.  Freedom from tyranny, taxation without representation, and imperial monarchy power.  Freedom of religion, speech and the press.  The list goes on and on.

Many today have forgotten or have never known the sacrifices made to create a nation built on these principles, and the blood and fortunes spent to make it a reality.  Monday would be a good day to pause and remember.

But it would also be wise to consider: what have we been freed "to"?  Create a list - and then live out those freedoms in the coming days!  In an election season when it seems our Presidential choices are reduced to tired cluelessness vs. unpredictable recklessness, it is easy to get cynical very quickly.  Be a Biblical Independent, and speak into both parties and approaches.  Don't so align yourself with one or the other that you lose all influence with people who disagree.  You have the freedom to use your Christian faith to influence others in our society.  So do it!

Consider also on this upcoming Freedom weekend the amazing gift of spiritual freedom that Christ was won for us.  As John 8:36 reads: "So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed." (NASB)

It's true you know!  So live in that freedom.  Indeed!

MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY IN THE COMMUNITY
Volunteers Needed for Davidson County

Mid-Cumberland Human Resource Agency’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman program advocates for the rights of thousands of residents in nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, and homes for the aged in Davidson County and 12 additional counties in Middle TN. The Long Term Care Ombudsman Program is a partner agency with the United Way of Davidson County.  Ombudsman staff consists of two District Ombudsmen and an Ombudsman Assistant, along with 35 trained volunteers. Trained, certified Ombudsman volunteers pay regular visits to these facilities where they spend time with residents, monitor conditions, investigate complaints, educate regarding abuse and neglect and protect residents’ rights. The program offers mediation, complaint resolution, and public education for residents and their families.

The Long Term Care Ombudsman Program is actively recruiting for volunteers in the Davidson County area. Volunteer applicants must pass a background check and attend a 16 hour in-house training. The next training session will be held August 9 and 10 in Nashville.  Those interested in assisting have until Monday, July 18 to contact the program by sending an email to crudolph@mchra.com or calling 615-850-3918.
