Customers are saving even more water

A year ago, when the severity of California’s drought was becoming very apparent, our customers cut their water use in May by 27 percent when compared to 2013.

That was a remarkable result, but one year later the water savings are even more amazing.

This May, our customers cut their water used by 38 percent when compared to the same year, 2013. Clearly, you have found more ways to save water in the past year and we applaud your efforts. Water saved today is water we have available for the uncertain tomorrow.

What is CCWD Asking Customers to Do Now?

The winter brought us rain and snow that has improved water supplies for the coming year. While mandatory conservation requirements have been lifted, CCWD's Board of Directors adopted permanent prohibitions that target wasteful use of water, including:
  • You are not allowed to water your outdoor landscape during the day between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

  • You cannot water your outdoor landscape when it is raining, or up to 48 hours after measurable rainfall.

  • You are not allowed to have excessive water running off your landscape onto pavement.

  • No washing driveways, sidewalks, parking areas, patios or other outdoor area, unless the failure to do so would create a hazard to the health and safety of any individual or the public;

    Note:  If you are served by the cities of Pittsburg, Antioch, Martinez or Bay Point, rules for your water agency may be different.

Our Latest Video Takes A Look At New California Natives at CCWD’s Bette Boatmun Conservation Garden

We spotlight the Bette Boatmun Conservation Garden at our CCWD offices in our new video

When our main office in Concord was being made earthquake-safe this past year, about half of the nearly one-acre garden had to be replanted. We chose only drought-tolerant California-native plants for the replanted section. In the video we will show you some of the plants and how we planted and care for them.

The garden is a showcase of all kinds of drought-tolerant plants, using more than 70 percent less water than the lawn it replaced in the 1990s.  Please take a look.
