NITDA RECEIVES NiRA EXECUTIVE BOARD
 On Wednesday, 29th July 2016, I led the Executive Board of Directors, Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) to the Management Team, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Abuja to present the NiRA 2015 annual report, on the management of the Nigerian ccTLD - the .ng in accordance with the MOU between NITDA and NIRA. We made the annual presentation of the Board's stewardship of NIRA to the Management of NITDA under the leadership of Dr. Vincent Olatunji in Abuja. Permit me to comment that it was a successful outing.
Major highlight of the report included:
- Major activities of NiRA for the year 2015
- Income generation strategies
- Financial summary
- Major 2016 financial Plans
The event provided an opportunity for us to present the DG with the hard copies of the organization’s financial report.
The Ag. Director General, Dr. Vincent Olatunji appreciated our team for a detailed report and assured the organization of NITDA support for NiRA programs and projects.
I appreciate my colleagues on the NiRA Board who attended the presentation, the Secretariat staff for their steadfastness and all our partners including the Registrars, Registrants, stakeholders, the press and everyone that is helping to project the .ng ccTLD brand.

DOMAIN NAME REGISTRATION- JANUARY TO JUNE 2016
The domain names count from January to June 2016 include 14,966 registrations and 9,271 renewals. In June 2016. 2,767 new domain names were registered, 1,686 domain names were renewed and there were 96 transfers between the NiRA Accredited Registrars. The renewal rate is encouraging as well. The table and graph below depict the domain name registrations and renewals for the past three months period of April, May, June 2016 across the years.

NITEC 2016 SUMMARY
The maiden edition of the Nigeria International Technology Exhibition and Conference (NITEC) 2016 with a theme “the role of disruptive technologies in catapulting Africa’s GDP” held on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th of June 2016 at the Civic Center Lagos State, Nigeria.
The conference which was declared open by Mr. Biyi Oladipo, an Executive Board of Director at NiRA, brought together experienced speakers from diverse profession related to technology, some of which included Mr. Ayotunde Coker; CEO Rack center, Revd. Sunday Folayan; President Nigeria Internet Registration Association, Mrs. Juliet Ehimuan-Chiazor; Country Manager, Google Nigeria, Mr. Yele Okeremi; CEO, Precise Financial Systems, Kola Aina CEO, Emerging Platforms Group, Simeon Ononobi Founder; Myadsapp.com, Zubair Abubakar; Co-Founder, Chopup Games and so many more.
The program which sought to foster the understanding of the impact disruptive technology had on the GDP of Africa deliberated on topics related to disrupting the disruptor, IOT & WEARABLES: what are the threats and opportunities?, Trends driving the future of marketing & the digital landscape and so many more presentations.
NiRA Accredited Registrars were amongst the exhibitors at the 2016 NITEC. We appreciate the efforts of the NiRA Accredited Registrars in the promotion of the online .ng identity.
At the end of the event, participants were further fascinated on how to harness the great and immense opportunities hosted by technology.

PERVASIVE COMPUTING
 Pervasive computing also known as ubiquitous computing is a growing trend towards embedding microprocessors in everyday objects so they can communicate together. The words pervasive and ubiquitous mean "existing everywhere." Pervasive computing devices are completely connected and constantly available. Pervasive computing relies on the convergence of wireless technologies, advanced electronics and the Internet.
In brief, we are saying that pervasive computing means:
Anytime, Anywhere, Any Device, Any Network, Any Data
- Anytime/anywhere: 24/7, global, ubiquitous access.
- Any device ranging from the macro computers to whatever is mobile;
- Any network: access, data synchronization, wireless optimization, security, development tools, device and user management.
- Any data: e-mail, internet-Intranet; public services.
PERVASIVE COMPUTING AND THE DNS
The Domain Name System (DNS) which is also pervasive across the Internet is so important that we tend to regard it as Internet plumbing: it goes everywhere, it’s available. With the aid of the DNS, specifically the internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) pervasive computing/internet of things can be much more effective.
