Busy Bloggers

Marty's Message

Several maintenance and renovation projects have kept the CPS Building busy this summer. Our entire HVAC system is being updated, a new Academic and Career Advising Center created and our large lecture hall renovated–including creation of the Joan North Place, a space dedicated to former Dean Joan North and designed to engage students and visitors.

Everyone has been exceptionally accommodating when dealing with the construction–associated dust, noise, air and electrical shutdowns. The project caused classes and faculty offices to be moved, Gesell Institute for Early Childhood relocated and patients of the Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic rescheduled. All new new student orientation sessions were held at alternative sites.

Even in the midst of these adjustments, faculty, students and visitors have remained upbeat. Last week a group of us meeting in my office, interrupted by the loud sound of a hammer drill, were forced to stop talking. When the drilling stopped, someone quipped that the drilling was “the sound of a newly refurbished classroom.” We all chuckled and nodded and then carried on with the meeting.

Be sure to take a look at the photo updates in this week's Monday Message to see construction progress, and keep your fingers crossed so that the work is finished prior to the start of the academic year.

Marty Loy,
Dean
