A Work/Life Newsletter To Help You Reach Your Potential
Dear Friends,

Freedom is the theme of the week, both in my house and in our country. In my home, my daughters are getting older and they have new expectations, so we are struggling to stay ahead of their changes and their needs. Nationally, the news this week has torn at our heartstrings, making it clear that what it means to be free in our country is still an experience that varies wildly.

Your Work Environment

Not all employers are created equal—especially for working parents. The right environment will make it relatively easy to stick to your boundaries and feel good about your role. Pick the wrong one and you’re positioning yourself for needless conflict and angst. Here are some things to look for:
  • Parental leave policies
  • An older you at the office (It is great to be a pioneer but not when you are working and momming and wifing and friending)
  • The absence of a “live your life at work” culture (ping pong tables at the office? Not for you!)
  • Fluid communication (You have no time to walk on eggshells.)
And of course, look for a boss who values his or her personal life or they won’t be valuing yours!
