Message from the President

 

Welcome to our first issue devoted to Industrial Design and Human Factors. The importance of  Human Factors and usability for medical devices cannot be overstated.

Our Human Factors team recently shot a video discussing their design philosophies, projects, and passions.  It debuts below.

They also wrote 4 blogs for the issue that are joined by Dana Trousil's amusing reflection on the lasting impressions of concept images.

 

The timing of this issue is perfect.  We're celebrating great ID combined with engineering, manufacturing and project management that delivered impressive results for InnovoSciences and won the 2016 Team of the Yard award on June 24.

FDA “hit list” of highest priority medical devices for human factors guidance

 

Did you know that this year FDA’s Human Factors Premarket Evaluation Team have a priority review hit-list for medical devices? Are you on it, are you ready, and what does it mean? This blog will help you understand what it means for you and your device.

FDA Human Factors Premarket Evaluation Team formally released its guidance ‘Applying Human Factors and Usability Engineering to Medical Devices’, superseding the ‘Medical Device Use-Safety: Incorporating Human Factors Engineering into Risk Management’ released 16 years previously.

StarFish wins Team of the Year at 2016 VIATeC awards

StarFish Medical was chosen 2016 VIATEC Team of the Year at the 15th annual Victoria Advanced Technology Council (VIATEC) awards on June 24. The Team of the Year award recognizes a team that has “the perfect mix of outstanding initiative and service delivery, had a significant impact on the company for which they work and exude great personality or team dynamic while getting it all done.”

The awards celebrate the achievements of technology companies responsible for making Greater Victoria the fastest growing technology region in B.C.
