Residents and visitors to the Battlefords have two great opportunities to experience Fine Craft this summer: the Saskatchewan Handcraft Festival at the Alex Dillabough Centre, July 15 - 17, and the Dimensions exhibitionat the Chapel Gallery, July 8 - September 4.
The Saskatchewan Handcraft Festival, a premier market of the Saskatchewan Craft Council (SCC),is known for bringing the finest in Saskatchewan craft and art to residents and visitors in the Battlefords for over forty years. Juried marketers will feature glass, pottery, clothing, turned wood, jewellery, and more.
This year the SCC is excited to partner with Dance Saskatchewan and the Chapel Gallery to present Artistic Workshops for Kids. The workshops will be held Friday at 1 pm, and Saturday at 10 am and 1 pm. Workshops are open to drop-ins, but pre-registration is encouraged. Cost is $10 per child, and includes one adult admission to the Handcraft Festival. Call Dance Saskatchewan for more information and to register at 1-800-667-8480.
Dimensions is the Saskatchewan Craft Council’s biennial, juried exhibition of Fine Craft which encourages and rewards excellence in craft. The 2015 exhibition features a wide range of high quality pieces — created by Saskatchewan artists.
Ceramic artist Deb Vereschagin (Meadow Lake) can be found at the Handcraft Festival, and her award winning piece can be viewed in Dimensions. Her piece "Chevron" won the Award for "Excellence in Functional & Production Ware."
"I have a fascination with texture, and carving seems to be consuming my current work. In the beginning I started out with rather naïve attempts, but my work has evolved stronger and more purposeful. Hesitation has no place in the equation. It is more than a tactile experience. It is high and low relief, as well as hills and valleys; it is a strong line against a smooth transition; it is light and shadow both reflected and absorbed; it is a repeated pattern or a combination of many."
Visit the Saskatchewan Handcraft Festival for a unique prairie shopping experience, and fun for the whole family!
