Week 4 - Don't forget your cloth bags!
week 4 CSA  • farm & ptc market • tuesday-saturday

Welcome to Week 4 of the 2016 CSA Program!

Happy belated 4th of July to everyone! We hope your holiday was exciting and filled with laughter. As you see in the main picture today, Rick drove our Ford 5000 in the Peachtree City Parade yesterday (drove the wagon and tractor from the farm and back) for the Peachtree City Farmers Market. Special thanks to one of our customers for this great picture she sent to me yesterday.

Things at the farm are warming up. We're looking forward to the rain. Our orders of seeds came in at the end of last week and they will be quickly going into the ground so the rain can sprout them. It gets harder and harder to keep things growing with the temperatures going up like they are these days plus the lack of rain we've had here. That's the main reason we took off the majority of August and September for the CSA Program - it is extremely difficult to keep good plant growth going through the heat. So 105 is hot now... who knows what August will be like!!!

One of the biggest issues we've found in the past is how to store and freeze the produce you receive in your share. I will have a few documents printed for you at the pick-up location. They will be regarding freezing vegetables, freezing fruits, and storing produce. Ask me for one if you would like a hard copy.

DON'T FORGET YOUR BAGS - we will be refilling your cloth bags with your food items. Of course we will have a few with me this week in case you do forget them. And hopefully soon, we'll have our Minter's Farm bags. Also, bring back your empty jars and the rings - we can sterilize them and reuse!

***TAKE NOTICE: We have changed the pick-up location at the farm PERMANENTLY to the commercial kitchen across the road from the blue house. Directions: once you're on Hill's Bridge Rd, you'll travel about 3/4 of a mile. Once the pavement ends, take the first gate on the left (white painted boards). Look for the vehicles parked beside the grey barn. I will be inside the kitchen (brown painted side).

This week's bounty:

FRUITS & VEGETABLES:

- Squash/Zucchini
- Tomatoes
- Purple hull Crowder Peas - UNSHELLED
- Peaches
- Silver Queen Corn
- Okra
- Jams/Jellies (4oz for half share; 8oz for full share)

MEAT:

Our Meat CSA will begin this month and the Store is LIVE! Check out our Store page for our different options. We will always have add-ons available (specific cuts, quantities, etc.), so keep that in mind as well. Anything special we will need plenty of time to get in order.

If you're interested in meat for Week 4, please let me know your order. I'll have items available from Happy Hogs LLC and Rocking Chair Ranch (beef) and chicken (whole, half birds, leg/thigh quarters, breasts (2 per pack), and wings). Please let me know in plenty of time so I can get the order put in and picked up. Some items may be a special cut, so keep this in mind!

RECIPES:

Perfect Grilled Corn Salsa - fresh corn and tomatoes put to good use

Grilled Peaches with Cinnamon Honey Ricotta - peaches on the grill... what gets better than that??

Glazed Lemon Zucchini Bread - another way to have fun with zucchini

Shannon’s Sautéed Squash - from the kitchen of one of our CSA members to yours!

Please email me any recipes you love that involve items from the weekly shares. I'll post them on our Recipes page on our website.

See you this week!

Locally yours,
Stephanie @ Minter's Farm
