Sales Tax Reform
Beginning July 1st, businesses filing and paying transaction privilege tax (TPT) in Arizona have new procedures to follow.
Required by law, the new procedures are aimed at simplifying how businesses report and pay TPT. Prior to July 1st, the Department of Revenue administered TPT for the counties and a few cities that chose to have their TPT programs administered by the State. By the fall, the State will administer TPT for all jurisdictions. By the end of 2016 the department will be the single point of contact for all TPT transactions in the state.
The most significant change you will see when filing the TPT reports will require the use of location-based reporting to ensure each city receives accurate distribution of taxes collected.
There are two new forms (TPT-EZ and TPT-2) available to download to accommodate location-based reporting for reporting periods beginning on or after June 1, 2016. The TPT-EZ is a simplified tax form for businesses with one location or jurisdiction. The TPT-2 replaces the outdated TPT-1 for use by multi-location or multi-jurisdiction businesses. The department will no longer accept TPT filings using the TPT-1 form for reporting periods beginning on or after June 1, 2016.
In addition, the law now requires businesses with more than one physical location in Arizona to file tax returns electronically via www.AZTaxes.gov.
