8:30am – 4:00pm
Picard Center
200 E. Devalcourt St.
Lafayette, LA 70506

The Pelican Center is hosting a one-day workshop focused on the fundamentals of a Child in Need of Care (CINC) case. Designed for a multi-disciplinary audience, National Association for Counsel for Children, Child Welfare Law Specialist Elizabeth "Betsy" Fordyce will cover the constitutional, federal, and state law underlying dependency cases. Participants will explore these legal principles, as well as the concepts of timely permanency for families, reasonable efforts both to prevent removal and to further the permanency goal, child development, and the impact of trauma on child behavior. Participants will examine the roles and responsibilities of the various parties to a CINC case. This session will include a focus on ethics – namely, the guiding principles for different stakeholders. The training will utilize adult learning theory in its design, incorporating lecture, small group discussion, and interactive practice. CWLS applicants will enjoy this refresher course to the Red Book Training in preparation for the CWLS exam.

Registration is $25 and will cover lunch, refreshments and training materials. 6.5 CLE and CEU hours will be applied for.  CLE hours will include ethics.
