Mill Street Books  - where conversations begin

Hello Summer!
I can hear the cows on the fairgrounds this morning - the Almonte Fair is underway. It's also festival season in Almonte; we are selling tickets for Puppets Up and the Highland Games.
As a member of the Ramsay Women's Institute, I invite you to try tea-on-the lawn which is served from 2:00 to 4:00pm Wednesdays and Saturdays in July and August at the Mill of Kintail.  I always make lemon loaf for my shift!

The store is stocked with great books for the lazy days at the beach. We carry puzzles and colouring posters for rainy day fun and new straw baskets for your finds at the local farmer's market.
Please note the Harry Potter plans below. The first act of the screenplay was performed and received wonderful reviews.  We are very excited to read the new book! Purchase the book in advance to get your invitation to our midnight party.

We  are a small shop with limited space. There isn't room for all the books we would like to carry.  We are happy to meet your special order needs. You can order in person, by phone or online through our website. There is no extra charge. Delivery times vary depending on the title. Sometimes your choices introduce us to titles we've overlooked.
Thanks for shopping in a small independent. I am grabbing my book and reading down on the dock.

Mary

In case you haven't heard this story...
Mill Street Book Club Members praised the The Heaviness of Things That Float  (the June Book Club selection) for its writing style, setting, plot, character development and especially the authenticity of the novel.  The main character is Bernadette who is about to retire after working as a nurse for 40 years in a remote West Coast reserve.  We had a lively discussion about bridging cultures and becoming part of a community.
A special surprise was that the author Jennifer Manuel had reached out to our group and sent a letter thanking us for reading her book and shells she had collected on Vancouver Island for each member. It was exciting to feel a connection to the author whose book we thoroughly enjoyed and enthusiastically recommend.
