Visualizing horror

Sadly I've been bringing up this piece showing the demise or fortunate escape of some of the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting last month. It's a great example of presenting complex, hard-to-write situations with many points of view. The Tampa Bay Times also put together the special project, "Choice and Chance" under two weeks. That's some skillful reporting and strong web designing.

Editor's Note: In a very separate vein, today is my birthday! Today also marks the start of Keeping Tabs becoming a monthly newsletter. I'm aiming to have it out the seventh of every month. So keep an eye out for the next issue!

Gun coverage

  • A SoCal radio station looks into officer involved shootings.
  • 965 people were fatally shot by police in 2015 -- a visual analysis by the Washington Post.
  • Vox made an interactive calendar of all the mass shootings in 2015.
  • The Guardian has an elaborate tracker of police shooting deaths in the U.S.
  • Finally, The Trace created an interactive map to really personalize gun violence. Find out how many people have been shot near where you live.
