Proposed merger with SFH

Plans for the proposed merger of NUH and Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are progressing at pace.

This includes discussions to determine the most suitable operational structure to most effectively manage the future 6-site organisation. We are aiming to create the new organisation later in 2016/17 following the necessary approvals.

NUH’s on-the-ground support at SFH has increased since April as work to further accelerate improvements in the areas identified as priorities by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) (and where SFH has already made progress) has expandedacross the Trust. SFH is expecting an unannounced CQC inspection over the summer.

Over the past month, SFH has received the welcome news that the CQC have lifted one of their improvement notices, reflecting the improvements that have been made in sepsis management and in recognising and rescuing deteriorating patients.

We are awaiting guidance from NHS Improvement (our regulator) on whether the proposed new organisation will be a Foundation Trust or NHS Trust.

We are developing a business case which details how the new organisation will become clinically and financially sustainable in the longer-term.

For the latest information about the proposed merger visit our dedicated website: www.futuretogethernotts.nhs.uk. This includes Frequently Asked Questions from patients and public members from our recent events. If you have any questions about the proposed merger you can send these to: nuhcommunications@nuh.nhs.uk
