Wellbeing Our Way is about enabling people to manage their health in ways that matter to them. We work through voluntary and community organisations.
Good afternoon,

At Wellbeing Our Way’s heart is the belief that people with long-term health needs and voluntary organisations can play a powerful role in enabling people to live their lives in ways which matter to them.

We know that approaches like peer support and care and support planning can transform people’s lives by linking them in with people who understand their experiences, and by recognising  and building upon their strengths, rather than simply focusing on people’s needs.

And we know these approaches work:
  • 86% of people said that they were better able to manage their condition after engaging with Penny Brohn’s Living Well course.
  • NDTi and Innovations in Dementia found that using a ‘circles of support’ approach helped people living with dementia to rebuild their social networks, and reduced feelings of isolation for the person and their carer.
  • CAMHeleon focuses on the small things that can make a big difference to young inpatients, and supports CAMH (children and adolescent mental health) ward staff to make changes in the ways in which they support young people’s recoveries.
You can find these examples – and nearly 70 more – in Wellbeing Our Way’s new WOW! Exchange (previously called the WOW Community). The WOW! Exchange is a space to showcase great practice, exchange ideas, and to enable learning across voluntary and community organisations.

This is your space – please add your own examples of enabling people to live well, explore what others are doing, and feel inspired by the huge range of great work across our charities and community organisations.

This is just the beginning for the WOW! Exchange – help us spread the word (using #WOWhealth on social media), and encourage your communities to contribute their examples, and learn from the examples generously contributed by others.

Best wishes,

WOW! Exchange: A different way to connect

A blog about making ideas happen, the power of connections, and Wellbeing Our Way's new WOW! Exchange...
"So called 'weak ties' - the type of connections between acquaintances that can link diverse social groups - can actually be very powerful in spreading ideas or information. These are the kind of community ties which can underpin campaigns, and event become social movements.

These are the kind of ties the WOW! Exchange wants to help people to develop."

In the last couple of weeks, Wellbeing Our Way hosted its Manchester peer support and supporting self management events, in partnership with Macc (Manchester’s VCSE sector support organisation). The events brought together 44 organisations to share learning and explore opportunities for working together through Greater Manchester-based communities of practice. If you are based in Greater Manchester and would like to find out how to get involved, please get in touch with Natalie

Systems leadership for beginners
"Systems Leadership is about how you lead across boundaries – departmental, organisational or sectoral. It’s how you lead when you’re not in charge, and you need to influence others rather than just pull a management lever."
Debbie Sorkin, National Director of Systems Leadership, The Leadership Centre, is leading a National Voices event in September - 'Using Systems Leadership to shape change'. She has blogged for us about what Systems Leadership is, how it works, and how it can help us to overcome large and complex challenges.
