Mòd, Aradhana, Féile, Tamasha … Festival!
A festival by any other name … is still a festival!
In English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Swedish and many other languages we use the same word: festival, the roots of which are feast or adoration. Called mòd in Scotland, Aradhana in India, féile in Ireland, tamasha in Kenya, and mahrajan throughout the Arab world, the festival in celebration of folk music is alive and well!
Our members are producing, performing at, or attending festivals en masse this busy season! We’re impressed by the engagement and it’s a great reminder that folk music inspires community gathering and cultural exploration that knows no borders.
To celebrate the festival tradition, highlight our members' musical feats, and capture the level of activity happening in folk festivals around the world, we’ve created a resource for all to use.
Visit our sortable international festival calendar here. If we’ve missed any you’re fond of, be sure to let us know by emailing at FAI@folk.org.
FAI is proud to announce platinum sponsor, GigSalad who are joining our community as a business solution for presenters and artists.
GigSalad is an online platform for artists to promote their talent, connect with event hosts and planners, and get booked for private and public gigs ranging from weddings and parties to corporate events and festivals. As the largest entertainment booking platform in the U.S. and Canada, they help talented people do what they love.

Conference Team Profile
We are pleased to announce that Cindy Cogbill is serving as Program Coordinator for the 2017 Conference. In this role, Cindy works closely with FAI's Executive Director and Programming Committee to determine and facilitate the schedule of panels and professional development workshops, as well as the mentorship and speed-dating network sessions, and emcee list.
Cindy is well-known by most FAI members and delegates as the past Managing Director of FAI while the office was based in Memphis. In addition to her deep connection to the folk music community, she has served as a professor at Visible Music College, is an ArtsMemphis fellow, and is currently the Programming and Marketing Coordinator at Levitt Shell in Memphis. You can contact Cindy at programming@folk.org.
The world’s largest gathering of the folk music community doesn’t happen without a legion of dedicated and talented volunteers. Applications are now open for friendly, reliable, and punctual individuals to join our crew at FAI’s 29th Annual Conference, February 15-19, 2017, in Kansas City, MO.
The volunteer approval process will begin in October 2016. Applicants who we are not able to place will still receive the benefit of a discounted registration rate based on the time the application was received.
The Nominating Committee of FAI's Board of Directors is now looking for candidates interested in being considered for the ballot to elect new Directors.
Board service requires being a voting member in good standing for the duration of a three-year term; however, non-members may submit for consideration. Directors are elected "at large" and do not represent any specific constituency.
