PCI Hosting Free Joint Replacement Information Session July 14
Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa is holding a free informational class about joint replacements, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Thursday, July 14, in the 3rd floor Community Room. The class will be presented by Thomas Paynter, MD, FAAOS, orthopedic surgeon at PCI, and will cover hip and knee joint replacement basics as well as new technologies now available.
“With people living longer and staying active as they age, joint replacements are becoming more and more common,†said Dr. Paynter said. “Often times, people put off seeing a doctor until their joint problems are absolutely unbearable. I’d like to help educate people on the basics of joint replacement surgery, so they know what to expect, as well as the new technologies currently available. Hopefully, I can ease some of the anxiety people have about joint surgery and answer questions they might have.â€
Symptoms of joint issues that may require replacement include painful arthritis, locking of the joint, buckling, clicking, grinding or limping. “It’s possible that some joint problems can be solved without surgery, through lifestyle changes, weight loss and physical therapy exercises. If those first line strategies don’t work, it may be time to think about surgery,†Paynter said.
“Anyone experiencing symptoms, who wants to learn more about joint surgery, is welcome to come to my presentation,†Paynter continued. “We will discuss hip and knee replacements, with time for audience questions at the end.â€
