 Upcoming Lifestyle Medicine event

An evening with

Dr David Katz.

Lifestyle, environment
and
chronic disease: a confluence of causes

Charles Perkins Centre Auditorium,
University of Sydney

Co-hosted by the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine and the Charles Perkins Centre.

With thanks to the Australasian Academy of Anti-ageing Medicine. Please note that this event is one of only two opportunities to hear David speak in Australia this year. He is also the keynote presenter and pre-conference speaker at the 10th Annual A5M Conference, 5-7 August in Melbourne.

“Lifestyle as medicine has the potential to prevent up to 80% of chronic disease; no other medicine can match that. In addition, it is potentially inexpensive and even cost-saving; free of all but good side effects; safe and appropriate for children and octogenarians alike. It is, quite simply, the best medicine we’ve got.”

David Katz, MD, MPH, FACPM, FACP
President, American College of Lifestyle Medicine
Founding Director, Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center

Join us for a memorable evening with Dr David Katz, Anja Taylor, Prof Stephen Simpson, Dr Joanna McMillan and Prof Garry Egger.

The ‘confluence of causes’ driving the chronic disease epidemic requires a ‘whole of systems’ approach, from primary prevention through to clinical practice, from federal down to local government policy, from community measures through to our own awareness as individuals for the health of our families.

Representing the intersection of public health and clinical practice, Lifestyle Medicine provides a multidisciplinary, multi-system approach to both prevention and chronic disease management.  Better still, Lifestyle Medicine promotes modification of the determinants of health and the causes of disease, whether systemic, environmental or behavioural.

You’ll hear about the confluence of causes and the complexities of improving a nation’s health from Profs Stephen Simpson and Garry Egger.  Garry will tackle ‘Is obesity really a problem? (or is it what causes obesity that is the problem), while Stephen will explain how ‘Improving health is more than a medical challenge’.

ABC TV Catalyst presenter, Anja Taylor, will speak on ‘Getting the message across through science journalism’.  Dr Joanna McMillan will make it personal by busting 10 myths and misconceptions about diet and exercise, and Dr David Katz will answer the question, ‘If lifestyle is the medicine, what is the spoon?’

It’ll be an evening of gravitas with a touch of class to celebrate the growth of Lifestyle Medicine in Australasia and around the world.

Refreshments and finger food will be served. Tickets and a nominal registration fee are required to assist with catering and costs.

Please help us with a very important survey about patients' needs

One of our trusted Colleagues Professor Susan Nancarrow is conducting research supported by Southern Cross University on what patients value the most from their chosen health care practitioner.

The AMSN would be most grateful if you could share this link on your clinic social media pages. The AMSN will be providing further information to our members once the research has been complete so this study may help you directly to meet the expectations of your customers.

All individual answers are anonymous and the study has ethics approval.
