Spence Mountain Trail Project
The new Spence Kiosk is finally finished!
Many people helped in this accomplishment.
- Klamath Watershed Partnership provided a majority of the funding in an effort to educate people about non-point water pollution sources. The partnership's poster is displayed on the trail side of the Kiosk.
- Next, a big shout-out to King Burgett for building this showpiece! Thanks to his hard work, it will be around for several generations.
- Mark Goodman provided professional maps posted at both Spence Mountain and Moore Park, which are first class!
- Thanks to Jill Nelson, Nesting Well Design (aka Asana Yoga & Sole owner), for the layout and graphics.
- Last but not least, Larry Holzgang for his fine woodworking skills and crafting the registration box.

Klamath Lake Land Trust hike
A small but lively group of hikers met at the Buck Ridge end of the Klamath Ridgeview Trail on Saturday June 25 for the hike co-sponsored by Klamath Lake Land Trust and Klamath Trails Alliance.
Megan Nichols, executive director of the land trust and a KTA board member, and Dennis Taugher, KTA president, led the excursion.
The purpose was to familiarize the hikers with the "other end" of the trail. Mark Ahalt, owner and developer of Buck Ridge gave a short talk about the history of Buck Ridge and how it has evolved. Mark was the first to recognize the potential to connect the western end with Moore Park trails. Last year, a wide gravel road was built at Buck Ridge which makes it easy to get to the flat-top area and explore.
The group started the hike by taking the lower old rock catch basin trail. About a mile in, it joins a small service road that opens up into what we at the KTA are calling "Mark’s Landing" (where Mark has some equipment and a small shed).
The trail then goes uphill through several tight zigzags culminating at the highest point where Scratch crosses the Klamath Ridgeview Trail. If you know where to look, there is a metal survey stake. From there, the group turned around and retraced the route back down.
It was a leisurely stroll, stopping frequently to check out the stunning views of Upper Klamath Lake, Buck Island, the Running Y Resort and the nearby farmland.
The Klamath Ridgeview Trail is a four mile trail and one of Klamath County’s premier trails. Check it out! We think you will agree.
The KTA hopes this will encourage others to start their hikes, rides or runs at the western end of the trail — the Buck Ridge end.
